Zayo is seeking a knowledgeable and motivated
Customer/Vendor Tax Analyst to join our Tax Department to support the team in reviewing and resolving customer tax matters. In addition, this role handles multi-state sales and use tax matters involving purchases from vendors. This position interacts with Sales, Deal Management, Accounting, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Customers.
The
Customer/Vendor Tax Analyst supports the Company's indirect tax function by helping to manage customer and vendor tax matters across North America. This position serves as a key liaison between Tax, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Sales, Procurement, and customers to ensure proper tax treatment of transactions and compliance with applicable sales and use tax laws and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of indirect tax experience and possess strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. This role offers exposure to tax technology, exemption certificate management, use tax compliance, and customer-facing tax support.
ResponsibilitiesCustomer Tax Responsibilities
- Maintain customer tax exemption certificates through Avalara Exemption Certificate Management System (ECMS).
- Review, validate, and maintain customer exemption documentation to ensure compliance with state and local tax regulations.
- Research and respond to customer tax inquiries regarding sales tax charges, exemption status, and taxability of products and services.
- Coordinate issuance of tax credits and tax adjustments related to customer tax matters.
- Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Billing, and Accounts Receivable teams to resolve customer tax issues in a timely manner.
- Support tax audits and information requests related to customer tax transactions.
- Assist with taxability determinations and customer tax process improvements.
Vendor Tax Responsibilities
- Review vendor invoices for appropriate sales and use tax treatment.
- Assist with use tax reviews and identify transactions requiring accruals or adjustments.
- Prepare and issue vendor tax exemption certificates and maintain supporting documentation.
- Manage and maintain Oracle Fusion and Avalara AvaTax tax configurations related to purchasing and accounts payable processes.
- Partner with Procurement and Accounts Payable teams to address vendor tax questions and ensure compliance.
- Support indirect tax audits and provide documentation related to vendor transactions.
- Assist with tax technology enhancements and process automation initiatives.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate tax records and supporting documentation.
- Monitor changes in sales and use tax laws and communicate impacts to internal stakeholders.
- Assist with special projects, process improvements, and tax system implementations.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships across departments.
- Support the broader Indirect Tax team as needed.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
- Minimum of Two to Three (2-3) years of experience in sales and use tax, indirect tax, accounting, or related tax functions.
- Knowledge of sales and use tax concepts, including exemption certificate management.
- Experience working with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with Avalara ECMS (Exemption Certificate Management System).
- Experience with Avalara AvaTax.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud ERP.
- Experience supporting both customer-facing and vendor-facing tax functions.
- Telecommunications, technology, or multi-state sales tax experience.

Estimated base salary range: $77,100 - $118,600 USD/annuallyThe base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.
