Full Job Description
RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:

This position is responsible for Product Management of the Air Handling Systems. Provides leadership in product management and programs to support market development. This position assists in leading the Custom Air Handling Product Line activities in alignment with strategies while creating value with our product offerings.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Builds and directs a diverse and engaged workforce. Develops and motivates people to drive performance and retention.

General Product Management

Track revenue, costs, profitability, warranty, and all other relevant Key Performance Indicators of product line with a deep understanding of the profit and loss levers.

Support (drive when necessary) cost reduction

Review (and report) market growth as well as product volume projections

Report market share by product and identify trends, gaps, and recommend actions needed to grow share

Maintain tracking of our products and competitor products success within the market(s) and identify opportunities and gaps

Develop and manage key documents - competitive analysis and business plans

Sales & Customer Interface

Maintain product line specific content for sales support, sales training and customer collateral.

Use voice of customer to determine and validate requirements for existing products as well as new product developments.

Integrate with Regional and National Business efforts to identify and fulfill training needs. Use expertise to support the development of effective training materials within local markets (i.e. sales education via blended learning, product launches).

Support opportunities to meet with customers that require focused attention on products. Includes visits to jobsites, customer offices, vendor visits or customer visits to Johnson Controls, Inc. facilities.

Marketing:

Support core positioning and messaging for product line consistent with overall strategy and Johnson Controls, Inc. Vision/Goals.

Work to ensure a consistent marketing message is communicated (internal and external).

Manage a full complement of sales, system selection and marketing tools (needed by the channels continually improve the competitive position in the market).

Support promotional activities in industry and professional forums.

Support launch plans and ramp down plans for products in accordance with product development schedules and the strategic product roadmap for the product line.

Product & Strategy Roadmap

Responsible for managing product(s) - identifying and implementing actions related to competitive positioning opportunities and identifying product gaps

Maintain product roadmap for Product Line segment

Drive processes to deliver the products, features, options, and sales tools required to feed strategic growth plans.

Manage product line lifecycle including recommendations for phase in/phase out schedules, product extensions or option additions, and value engineering.

Identify new business opportunities for product line.

Pricing & Costing

Support analysis to develop strategic market based pricing

Maintain, in collaboration with manufacturing facilities, standard costs and pricing based on commodity guidance, product design/development and VAVE projects.

Track margin variance and current costs and maintain understanding of real cost position versus standard cost/FTP.

Assure Sales tools are accurate and current with proper multipliers and price levels for their product line.

Business Planning & Competitive Analysis

Capture market product needs through direct engagement with customers and sales when appropriate to develop requirements for product extensions, enhancements, options, or new product developments.

Assemble competitive information directly available from competitors as well as feedback from regional sales and marketing teams.

Support development and management of key documents including competitive analysis and business plans.

Manage or play a key role in leading the product development projects to meet critical dates and the requirements of the product development process.

Direct Field Support / Project Engineering / Special Quote Support

Coordinate with design engineering and project engineering when needed to evaluate complex Special Quote or technical questions.

Provide necessary guidance on priority setting and resource availability for Special Quote opportunities that involve high level of effort or need to share resources in design and/or manufacturing engineering.

Special Projects: When assigned, coordinate outside of normal product line responsibility to complete a special project related to product management.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree


  • At least 2 years of strong familiarity with HVAC equipment and systems in product or program management, marketing, applications, or sales


  • Must be technically savvy, possessing strong knowledge of field sales and business practices relating to the identified products.


  • Presenting to executive level leadership


  • Experience with financial statements


  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail


  • Ability to travel is required 20%


DESIRED:

  • MBA is optional


  • Ability to envision and introduce creative tools for fast and effective interaction with the field combining high technical complexity and commercial interests in a seamless and user-friendly manner would be a significant plus.


SALARY RANGE: $85,000 - $115,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
