Full Job Description
The Crude Oil Scheduler coordinates the movement of crude oil and condensate from production locations to contracted delivery points. This role translates production forecasts and commercial commitments into reliable transportation schedules, maintains accurate volume and inventory records, and supports logistics decisions that protect production flow and maximize netbacks. The scheduler works closely with Marketing, Operations, Production Accounting, Marketing Accounting, and external counterparties.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily and monthly crude oil and condensate schedules across gathering systems, pipelines, truck carriers, and terminals, as applicable to assigned assets.
Prepare, submit, confirm, and revise nominations within counterparty deadlines. Align scheduled volumes with production forecasts, sales commitments, transportation rights, and available capacity.
Coordinate with field operations, purchasers, transporters, and terminal operators to confirm lifting plans, delivery locations, receipt and delivery timing, and operational readiness.
Monitor production, tank levels, inventory, actual movements, and delivery performance. Identify deviations early and adjust schedules to reduce the risk of tank constraints or production interruptions.
Respond to outages, pipeline restrictions, apportionment, weather events, and changes in purchaser demand. Develop alternate routing or trucking plans and escalate material cost or delivery risks.
Support Marketing in evaluating transportation alternatives, delivered netbacks, freight costs, and capacity utilization. Execute approved routing decisions within commercial and operating constraints.
Track applicable contract requirements, including volume commitments, delivery points, nomination procedures, quality specifications, and transportation fees. Flag potential shortfalls and exceptions.
Coordinate crude quality requirements, including API gravity, sulfur, and basic sediment and water specifications. Communicate off-specification issues and support resolution with Operations and counterparties.
Utilize analytical skills to evaluate production and scheduled volumes, analyze forecast-to-actual variances, prepare ad hoc analyses and reports, and support reporting requests for the team.
Review and interpret crude oil sales, transportation, and logistics agreements to understand operational requirements. Demonstrate intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a willingness to continuously learn and grow within the role.
Key Responsibilities Continued
Reconcile nominated, scheduled, and actual volumes using run tickets, pipeline statements, terminal reports, and purchaser records. Investigate discrepancies, losses, gains, and imbalances.
Provide Marketing Accounting and Production Accounting with accurate movement data and month-end support for accruals, inventory reconciliation, invoice review, and settlement.
Maintain current scheduling records, counterparty contacts, nomination calendars, and operating procedures. Prepare clear reports on volumes, inventory, constraints, and unresolved issues.
Maintain dependable counterparty relationships, improve scheduling processes and reporting tools, and provide backup coverage for other schedulers.
Required Qualifications
At least 3 years of relevant experience in crude oil scheduling, liquid hydrocarbon logistics, pipeline or terminal operations, or a closely related oil and gas role.
Working knowledge of crude oil nominations, transportation schedules, inventory management, custody transfer documentation, and volume reconciliation.
Ability to interpret operational provisions in crude oil sales and transportation agreements and apply them to daily scheduling.
Strong Excel skills and experience maintaining accurate data in scheduling, accounting, or energy trading and risk management systems.
Strong attention to detail, analytical judgment, and communication skills; ability to manage competing deadlines and resolve time-sensitive issues.
Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain, energy management, finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting an upstream producer with assets in multiple basins, particularly the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford, or Uinta Basin.
Experience coordinating pipeline and truck movements, supporting month-end close, and evaluating transportation costs and routing alternatives.
Experience improving scheduling reports, automating data reconciliation, or implementing scheduling and ETRM tools.
Working Expectations
Ability to provide occasional evening, weekend, and holiday coverage for time-sensitive scheduling issues and participate in an agreed coverage rotation. Occasional travel to field locations, terminals, or counterparty offices may be required.
