Full Job Description
About the role

As ATB's next Credit Realization Manager (CRM), you will play a pivotal role in managing a portfolio of impaired business and agricultural files. This is an exciting opportunity for a self-directed professional who thrives on variety, critical thinking, and impactful decision-making. Every day brings a new puzzle, and you will bring a forensic mindset and sharp investigative curiosity to untangle unique situations, look beneath the surface, and uncover recovery pathways.

In this dynamic role, you are much more than a risk manager-you are a trusted strategist. By blending empathy with professional scrutiny, you will guide clients through challenging times while confidently safeguarding ATB's interests. You will have the autonomy to make high-value decisions, balancing client care with robust risk mitigation to turn challenging defaults into successful resolutions.

This position has a hybrid work arrangement. On average, this means 3 days on-site per week. Please note that this is subject to change due to business priorities.

Accountabilities

  • Analyze & Scrutinize: Evaluate and analyze the borrower's status quo, financial statements, appraisals, forecasts, and business plans; look beyond the surface data to uncover the root causes of financial distress, understand the business cycle, and assess true future viability.
  • Asset Recovery & Forensic Review: Conduct diligent detective work to investigate, trace, and scrutinize ATB's security to ensure accuracy and identify potential recovery pathways
  • Strategy Execution: Develop and execute strategic exit plans to effectively manage risk and minimize losses on impaired loans.
  • Borrower Engagement: Communicate directly with borrowers to actively collect outstanding amounts owed.
  • Security Review: Review all security documents and agreements to ensure they are legally valid, enforceable, and shore up any gaps when necessary.
  • Restructuring & Negotiation: Structure and negotiate loan amendments or forbearance terms with borrowers to maximize recovery.
  • Credit Adherence: Underwrite credit submissions, ensuring all recommendations align with sound credit principles and ATB's lending policies and procedures.
  • Portfolio Oversight: Provide day-to-day management of the portfolio, balancing credit quality maintenance and portfolio health monitoring with high customer service expectations.
  • Valuation & Provisioning: Participate in collateral value estimations and calculate associated loan loss provisions.
  • Third-Party Collaboration: Work and communicate seamlessly with restructuring professionals, insolvency counsels, valuators, and financial advisors; direct repossession, foreclosure, or asset seizure activities as required.
  • Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong, trust-based relationships across various industries and internally throughout ATB.

Skills, experience & requirements

  • Investigative & Analytical Mindset: Possess a forensic approach to financial analysis, with advanced credit structuring, underwriting skills, and a sharp attention to detail that allows you to read between the lines of financial statements.
  • Legal & Security Acumen: Familiarity with business credit and security documents, backed by a solid understanding of contract law as it pertains to security agreements.
  • Distressed Asset Expertise: Experience working with challenged accounts and a practical knowledge of collection procedures (e.g., Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, Civil Enforcement Act, Forbearance Agreements, Foreclosures, Receiverships, etc.) is considered an asset.
  • Advanced Communication: Exceptional negotiating and conversational skills, with the emotional intelligence and spine required to handle high-stakes, difficult conversations.
  • Organization & Agility: Strong time management and organizational skills, with the agility to juggle and execute multiple tasks in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
  • Critical Problem Solving: Proven ability to apply critical thinking and detective-like problem-solving to evaluate complex files, successfully mitigating ATB's risk while remaining appropriately client-obsessed.
  • Team & Self-Direction: Nimble, self-directed, and intrinsically motivated, while remaining committed to the success of the broader team.
  • Conflict Resolution: Clear, concise verbal and written communication skills to guide clients through the credit realization process and de-escalate/mitigate potential conflicts.
  • Growth Mindset: A strong willingness to pursue continuous learning to develop your skills, talent, and innovative ideas.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Proven track record of building trust and rapport with a multitude of stakeholders, both within and outside of ATB.
