Job DescriptionOur client is looking for an experienced, NCCCO-certified Lift Director to plan and oversee crane, rigging, hoisting, and heavy lifting operations across its projects. In this role, you'll be the authority on lift safety and execution. You'll develop and approve standard and critical lift plans, review crane load charts and configurations, and evaluate site conditions such as ground stability, crane positioning, and access before any lift begins.
On a typical day, you'll run pre-lift and pre-task meetings, coordinate crane operators, riggers, signalpersons, ironworkers, and Superintendents, and watch lifts in progress to make sure they follow the approved plan. You'll have the authority to stop or change operations when conditions become unsafe. You'll also support complex lifts, structural steel erection, and heavy material placement.
You'll work closely with Project Management, Operations, Safety, and field leadership, and you'll lead and mentor the crane and rigging crews. The ideal candidate is a safety-first leader who is passionate about precise lift planning and keeps a crew running smoothly on demanding heavy civil and infrastructure jobs.
Duties and Responsibilities- Plan, coordinate, and oversee crane, rigging, hoisting, and heavy lifting operations.
- Develop, review, and approve standard and critical lift plans.
- Review crane load charts, configurations, capacities, and operating conditions.
- Evaluate jobsite conditions, including ground stability, crane positioning, access, and lifting areas.
- Coordinate crane operators, riggers, signalpersons, ironworkers, Superintendents, and other field personnel.
- Conduct pre-lift and pre-task meetings covering lift plans, communication procedures, responsibilities, and hazards.
- Verify that the right rigging equipment and procedures are used for each lift.
- Monitor lifting operations to make sure work is performed safely and according to the approved lift plan.
- Identify unsafe conditions and stop or modify lifting operations when necessary.
- Maintain lift plans, inspection records, and other required documentation.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and project specifications.
- Work with Project Management, Operations, Safety, and field leadership.
- Support complex lifts, structural steel erection, and heavy material placement.
- Provide guidance and leadership to crane and rigging crews.
Required Experience/Skills- 10+ years of crane and rigging experience
- 3+ years as a Lift Director, Rigging Supervisor, or in a comparable supervisory role
- NCCCO Lift Director Certification (required)
- Strong knowledge of crane operations, rigging practices, lift planning, and load charts
- Experience with mobile and/or crawler cranes
- Strong knowledge of OSHA crane and rigging requirements
- Ability to read and interpret lift plans, load charts, and technical documentation
- Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills
- Ability and willingness to travel to project locations as needed
- Must successfully complete required pre-employment screenings
Nice-to-Haves- Experience in underground utilities, heavy civil, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure construction
- Experience with Liebherr, Manitowoc, Link-Belt, or comparable crane equipment
- Background supporting structural steel erection and specialized heavy lifts
EducationNo degree is required. The NCCCO Lift Director Certification is required.
