About the position

Duties
The Quebec Regional Office (QRO) is located at 200 René-Lévesque Boulevard West in Montréal. We also have an office in Québec at 925 de l'Aéroport Street, located in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachment. QRO prosecutors conduct federal prosecutions in all judicial districts of Quebec except Gatineau, Pontiac and Labelle.

QRO prosecutors are primarily involved in major prosecutions, including organized crime (particularly drug and money laundering), economic crime, national and border security, anti-corruption, capital market fraud, and regulatory statutes such as the Fisheries Act, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, and many others.

Conditions of employment

- Security Clearance: Enhanced Secret Clearance, Enhanced Reliablity
- Member in good standing in the Law Society of one of the provinces or territories of Canada.
- Must be a member, in good standing, of the Barreau du Quebec within 100 days of appointment.
- Willingness to be assigned to other types of work at the same group and level. Assignment of work may be made within or between the various teams of counsel within the office and will be based on operational considerations and will not require relocation of residence.

Operational Requirements

- Mobility: Possession of a valid driver's licence that authorizes the holder to independently operate a passenger-class vehicle.
- Travel: sometimes on short notice and for extended periods.
- Overtime: including evenings and weekends.

ASSET EXPERIENCE:
- Experience providing advice in the context of complex investigations or prosecutions, including cases involving a high volume of information and significant disclosure obligations.
- Experience in the conduct of Charter litigation (including sections 8, 9 and 24 (2)) and with search warrant litigation.
- Experience providing advice on investigations or conducting prosecutions under any federal regulatory statute such as: the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999; the Competition Act; the Copyright Act; Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act; the Customs Act; the Excise Act; the Fisheries Act; the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; or the Income Tax Act.
- Experience conducting jury trials.
- Significant* experience conducting criminal or quasi-criminal litigation.

*Significant experience is defined as a minimum of five (5) years of experience acquired within the last ten (10) years.

Preference

Preference will be given to veterans first, followed by Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of jobs located in Nunavut or Yukon. For positions located in Nunavut, qualified Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be appointed first. For positions located in Yukon, qualified Yukon First Nations will be appointed first, followed by qualified Indigenous persons.
