Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Manager of Cost Advisory & Estimating to join our Program & Construction Management group in North America. The ideal candidate will bring experience across a broad range of sectors, including transit, highways, infrastructure, and buildings.

This key role requires a highly motivated professional with strong communication, team leadership, business development, and collaboration skills, along with the ability to work effectively within a large multidisciplinary team to deliver major capital projects and programs.

As Manager, you will lead Stantec's Cost Advisory & Estimating team and oversee the delivery of cost advisory and estimating services for multidisciplinary projects and programs across Canada and the U.S., ranging from small assignments to multibillion-dollar initiatives. You will also help drive the continued growth of the practice.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Provide cost advisory and estimating guidance for complex projects and programs ranging from small assignments to multibillion-dollar initiatives.
  • Develop innovative solutions to project issues and challenges.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve procedures, practices, tools, and training.
  • Identify and lead strategic pursuits that advance the practice, support growth, and help attract and retain top industry talent.
  • Manage resource requirements for the estimating department and assigned projects.
  • Perform cost risk assessments and probabilistic simulations to establish project contingency and reserves.
  • Ensure Stantec's procedures and guidelines are applied consistently and correctly, and that standards, practices, and deliverables align with recognized industry standards, including CIQS and AACE.
  • Lead process improvements for procedures and guidelines.
  • Set direction and goals for the department and individual team members.
  • Assist and advise client agencies with pre-planning, scope definition, final planning, budgeting, and funding estimates.
  • Serve as the primary client interface to communicate project information and support stakeholder buy-in.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary and diverse teams.
  • Strong collaboration, facilitation, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of cost advisory, estimating, program management, engineering design, and construction practices across infrastructure, transportation, and building sectors.
  • Ability to develop detailed WBS structures, estimating procedures, guidelines, and bottom-up estimates across industry-standard classes and formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct, perform, review, and present the full cost advisory life cycle for highly complex projects and programs.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing strategic initiatives across multiple business units and projects.
  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Strong integrity, positive attitude, and excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Advanced understanding of contracts, alternative delivery and their practical application.
  • Advanced proficiency in estimating software.
  • Ability to organize and manage data and produce advanced reports.
  • Ability to travel to project sites, work in seconded environments, and travel as required.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelors degree or diploma in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with federal, provincial, and municipal agencies, such as DCC, IO, MTO, Metrolinx, TTC, and regional authorities.
  • 12+ years of experience in cost advisory, including at least 5 years leading a multidisciplinary team. Construction and cost consulting experience are considered assets.
  • PQS or equivalent designation preferred.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
