Full Job Description
Milacron is looking for a Controls Software Engineer to join our team in Batavia, OH. In this position, you will be responsible for the development and testing of control system software for new product development, including HMI and PLC-based controls that monitor and operate injection molding and plastic extrusion machinery. You will support the software development lifecycle by designing and implementing new features on existing control platforms while adhering to established control architecture and development standards.

Work You'll Do:
  • Develop and test control system software for injection molding and plastic extrusion machinery.
  • Design, implement, and maintain new features on existing control platforms.
  • Develop web-based front-end applications using JavaScript, C#, and HTML.
  • Support and enhance legacy software systems utilizing Qt.
  • Develop backend machine control software in PLC environments using Structured Text and/or C++.
  • Monitor and control machine functionality through HMI and PLC components.
  • Follow established software architecture standards and coding style guidelines.
  • Collaborate with a global team of developers to support product development initiatives.
  • Learn and apply industry knowledge related to injection molding and extrusion equipment.
  • Participate in training, mentoring, and ongoing technical development activities.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • 3+ years of experience developing software for industrial automation, machine controls, embedded systems, or related applications.


  • Proficiency in C, C#, Python, and JavaScript, including software design, debugging, testing, and maintenance of production systems.


  • PLC programming experience using IEC 61131-3 languages, including Structured Text and Function Block Diagram.


  • Experience developing HMI applications and machine control software for industrial equipment.


  • Experience with scripting and automation languages such as Python, PowerShell, and Bash to support development, testing, deployment, and engineering workflows.


  • Experience using Azure DevOps, Git, and modern source control practices, including branching strategies, pull requests, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development methodologies.


  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, PROFINET, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, MQTT, and serial communications.


  • Experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting industrial networks and communication protocols, including integration of drives, HMIs, PLCs, I/O systems, robots, and third-party devices.


  • Experience integrating third-party devices, controls, and software solutions from external vendors, OEMs, and system integrators.


  • Experience collaborating within cross-functional and global engineering teams to develop and maintain commercial software products.

Preferred Skills
  • B&R Automation Studio experience.
  • Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 experience.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and hydraulic prints.
  • Injection molding or plastics industry experience
  • Qt framework experience
  • Embedded Linux development
  • Experience with AI-enabled engineering tools.
  • Cloud-connected industrial systems or Industry 4.0 technologies
