Controls Design Engineer - Grand Rapids, Michigan

DISHER is partnering with a leading global manufacturer in Grand Rapids, MI to fill their Controls Design Engineer position. This company designs and builds advanced surface preparation equipment and systems for industrial applications. They are looking for a creative and strategic Controls Design Engineer to support control system design, equipment development, documentation, and internal engineering initiatives. What you will get to do:

  • Receives/reviews project and product design requirements from Project Engineering.
  • Completes concept designs and submits to Project Engineering for approval (Initial Design Review).
  • Completes detail design and submits it to Project Engineering for approval and release (Final Design Review). Bill of Materials, Layout and Schematic Drawings; Software Design/Test, Design calculations.
  • Completes project/product documentation and submits it to Project Engineering for approval (documentation review).
  • Demonstrates integrity in all working relationships.
  • Communicates and cooperates with all other departments in the organization.
  • Constantly improve personal skills through training.
  • Constantly improve the organization by innovating and implementing new ideas.
  • Preforms other work-related duties as assigned.


What will make you successful:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from a four-year college or university; or equivalent.
  • Good electrical aptitude, familiarity with machine controls and wiring methods.
  • Creativity and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to apply electrical engineering standards and techniques.
  • Ability to design and read electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
  • Computer skills, including CAD, word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to write software for PLCs, HMIs, CNCs, Robots, and peripherals.
  • Troubleshooting skills.
  • Willingness to travel on a limited basis as required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
