Mayville Engineering Company (MEC) is seeking a results-oriented Controller to serve as the primary finance business partner for an assigned region of manufacturing facilities across the United States. This role supports a portfolio of sites with combined annual revenue exceeding $100 million and plays a critical role in driving financial performance, operational excellence, and strategic decision-making.
As the direct financial partner to the region's Operations Director, the Controller provides financial leadership, actionable insights, and business analysis to support growth, profitability, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires a strong understanding of manufacturing operations, the ability to influence business decisions, and a collaborative approach to partnering with site leadership teams. Role will be based in our Milwaukee Headquarters with travel expectations to assigned sites throughout the year, 10-20% travel expectation and opportunity to leverage remote Fridays.
ControllerLeads accounting function for large, complex, multi-site plant operations with elevated strategic and operational complexity ensuring financial integrity, driving efficiency, ensuring compliance, and providing leadership in financial planning and analysis. Supports strategic decision-making that improves profitability and manages risk across assigned plant(s).
Job Responsibilities- Ensures income statement accuracy for assigned plants by leading the monthly financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting, while maintaining inventory accuracy and implementing cost control measures to drive financial efficiency and integrity, along with monthly financial analysis explaining results compared to expectations in a timely manner.
- Prepares the forecasts and annual budget for assigned plants.
- Provides detailed financial analysis, identifying trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement and presents financial results and recommendations to senior management.
- Monitors and analyzes key performance indicators (KPIs) for assigned plants such as yield, scrap, downtime, and productivity overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) to identify trends, drive continuous improvement, and ensure operational excellence.
- Prepares plant results reporting and presents for assigned plants in monthly operating review and monthly business review meetings.
- Develops financial models to support business initiatives, expansion, capital expenditures and cost-saving strategies, including ensuring plants adjust resources to align with projected volume demands.
- Ensures SOX and operational internal controls are adhered to and company policies and external regulatory requirements followed.
- Partners with plant and operations functional leaders, as well as cross-departmental leaders, to provide financial insights that drive business growth, including cost efficiency, including, but not limited to, collaboration on new business programs, commercial pricing update accuracy, and validating procurement and continuous improvement savings.
- Performs full range of managerial responsibilities which may include but not be limited to: interviewing, hiring, coaching and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; performance management; department budget.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Skills Requirements- Knowledge and understanding of all disciplines of accounting and applicable laws and regulations; knowledge of GAAP and SEC regulations on annual, quarterly and special event reporting.
- Ability to exercise considerable judgment in guiding accounting team in planning, execution, and compliance about a variety of accounting practices.
- Good understanding of SOX internal control systems and their use in obtaining reliable and timely financial records and information.
- Great communication skills including negotiation, influencing, and consensus building to interface with employees/customers at all levels within organization and external customers, vendors, and agencies.
- Excellent planning, organizational, analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong computer literacy.
- Ability to forecast and develop budgets.
Educational Requirements- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- CPA license active status preferred.
Experience Requirements - Seven years of experience in accounting.
- Prior leadership and management experience in a large, complex manufacturing organization strongly preferred; public accounting experience preferred.
