Responsibilities

The Controller is responsible for overseeing all areas relating to accounting functions and financial reporting. This position will be responsible for daily, weekly and monthly accounting tasks and activities.

 

Key functions include but are not limited to the following:

 

 

• Assist management by safeguarding company assets, ensuring compliance with regulatory entities, producing reliable financial data in an efficient manner and accomplishing objectives.• Actively participate and oversee the Accounting function of the Finance department, monthly/quarterly financial close process, account reconciliations, SOX compliance, manage projects, train staff and review their work.• Maintain and provide accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual GAAP financials and prepare and provide reports and information as requested by WRBC.• Provide financial information to auditors and examiners as required, as well as regulatory/reporting entities as requested.• Actively participate and oversee preparation of the annual company budgeting process and provide monthly analysis of actual performance measured against these budgets.• Prepare and provide required tax reports and calculations, as necessary, to WRBC.• Act as a backup for the operation of the Finance department in the absence of the CFO.• Other duties/projects as assigned.

• Advanced knowledge/skill in various accounting areas, such as reinsurance, GL, statutory and GAAP reporting, taxes and statistical reporting.• Strong working knowledge of Excel, Hyperion and other data management tools, including pivot tables & V lookups.• Experience with Peoplesoft software (GL, Fixed Assets, Accounts Payable) a plus.• Five or more years of accounting experience in an insurance environment.• CPA preferred or advanced insurance accounting education, such as AIAF, CPCU, and other commensurate experience.• Successfully completed INS designation.• Performance appraisal – attain Exceeds Expectations rating and achieve major objectives.

• 4-year college degree in accounting or business.

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
