Overview

This position will be based in Vancouver, BC.

The work is diverse and includes, but is not limited to, the construction of new substations; work in existing substations, early site investigations and work on the transmission system up to and including 500kV. The role is mobile and will involve travel to potentially remote areas of British Columbia as needed by the project. The Construction Project Manager will report to the Director of Project Delivery.

Your role

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
  • Support the Project Manager with project planning deliverables such as Outage Staging, Construction Management, and Constructability Reviews,
  • Review preliminary design drawings for constructability purposes to support Engineering including identification and mitigation of construction risks.
  • Monitoring and tracking of construction progress, prepare progress reports, identifying and alerting the Project Manager of any delays as needed.
  • Tracking and reviewing any contemplated changes during construction.
  • Working with the Project Manager to evaluate, negotiate, quantify and approve claims.
  • Facilitate construction management meetings between Contractors, the Owner, Engineering, and other key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate design and construction interfaces with other subcontractors including completion and handover process, inspections, deficiency lists, handover documentation.
  • Responsible for construction coordination and staging between various Contractors during construction, ensure construction drawings are updated and returned to engineering prior to closing contracts
  • Review and advise on proposal and tender documents. Support the procurement process as needed.
  • Act as Site Safety Coordinator as needed, develop a safe work culture at site.
  • Report any Safety or Environmental incidents in management systems; inform key stakeholders and work with the Owner and Contractor(s) on remediation plans.


About you

  • 5-10 years' experience as a Construction Manager or Construction Manager, (as a Contractor or an Owner's Representative) on medium to large scale substation or transmission line projects.
  • Experience working in brownfield substations near live high voltage equipment, along with expert knowledge of materials, means and methods involved in the construction of electrical substations and transmission lines.
  • Expert knowledge in construction safety standards with ability to drive safety culture, with a strong understanding of risk management and flexible approach to find solutions where options are limited, and time is critical.
  • Advanced ability to engage the team and drive performance with a demonstrated track record of successfully working within multidiscipline teams.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting contract requirements, including contractor/client negotiations.
  • Advanced communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to maintain a professional and effective working relationship with the Project Owner, Project Manager, and key stakeholders.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Additional information

Expected compensation for this role is between $145,000 - $170,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
