Construction Controller provides fiscal and operational oversight for the Construction Division's five primary functions: General Contracting, Land Development Services/Finished Lot Sales, Site Contracting, Design Services, and Corporate-related management. This position leads the Construction Accounting team while overseeing financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, job costing, cash management, accounting controls, and tax and regulatory requirements. The Controller works closely with executive and divisional leadership to provide financial analysis, recommendations, and strategic fiscal oversight that supports the company's growth initiatives.
- Oversees the administration and continuous improvement of accounting systems, policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Oversees daily cash management, including cash position monitoring, cash flow analysis, bank deposits, and required bank financial reporting.
- Prepares and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, forecasts, and management reports, providing findings and recommendations to the President of Construction, CFO, and Senior Management.
- Oversees the annual operating budget process, including preparation, monitoring, and analysis of budget performance.
- Directs the accounts receivable and accounts payable functions, ensuring progress billings, collections, vendor payments, and related processes are completed accurately and timely.
- Oversees job costing, job revenue recognition, and recording of related costs of sales across the Construction Division.
- Ensures accurate and timely completion of monthly and year-end closing processes, internal financial statements, and year-end CPA work papers.
- Oversees financial analysis related to Land Development and Finished Lot Sales, including interest capitalization calculations, site write-off analysis, and related journal entries.
- Coordinates required tax, government, insurance, and other regulatory reporting, including preparation of general liability insurance audit work papers and support for applicable tax credit programs.
- Leads and supervises the Construction Division's accounting team, including recruitment, performance management, professional development, disciplinary actions, and employee relations.
- Develops and maintains labor and equipment billing rates and provides financial analysis and reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making.
RequirementsWhat we are looking for from you...- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required
- 5+ years' experience in accounting management and supervision of direct reports
- Experience in construction and/or real estate development accounting required
- CPA or CCIFP is highly preferred
- Strong proficiency in computerized accounting systems
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, SharePoint
- Knowledge of Yardi Accounting and Construction software is preferred but not required
- Must possess a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
