JOB DUTIES - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Software Systems Engineer is a senior-level engineering position that will provide technical oversight and expertise on high level design and development of software, hardware and firmware systems. This includes overseeing projects from conception to completion, ensuring quality control and industry standards are enforced across all projects, while providing peer reviews and technical guidance as needed.
An ideal Senior Software System Engineering candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Deep understanding of Agile development projects with extensive experience in various programming languages (e.g. Python, C#, C++, Linux, Java), network architectures (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP), databases (e.g. SQL/NoSQL) and have a strong knowledge of operating systems, cloud platforms, and artificial intelligence.
- Familiarity with telemetry standards (e.g. IRIG 106), open-source software frameworks (e.g. Open MCT), aircraft and ground instrumentation systems, real-time data processing and cybersecurity.
- Communication excellence: Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to effectively convey complex technical information to diverse audiences including vendors, subcontractors, customers, engineering teams, non-technical stakeholders and JT4 leadership.
The Senior Software System Engineer will be responsible for the following functions:
- Technical Expertise: Evaluate current development designs and approaches to ensure technical specifications and requirements are being met. Ensure all development projects adhere to industry, quality, and security standards. Provide innovative and cost-effective engineering methodologies and practices to various development teams.
- Engineering Exchange: Facilitate and lead collaborative discussions with the customer and technical staff to include JT4 Technical exchanges and working groups. Participate in relevant engineering conferences such as ITEA and ITC. Coordinate, implement and oversee cross utilization of various technical expertise across the JT4 Enterprise. Act as a subject management expert resource on complex software and hardware development
- Project Management: Assist IPT project manager on overseeing multiple development projects simultaneously with duties including but not limited to: identifying potential risks, evaluating timelines and resources and ensuring all technical requirements are met.
- Team Leadership: Provide technical mentorship, training and guidance to technical staff and assist in resolving engineering challenges. Develop and apply advanced methods, theories, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex system design projects.
- Procurement: Support procurement activities for various projects as needed to include drafting of statements of work, vendor evaluations, as well as subcontract development and monitoring.
- Reporting and Analysis: Monitor key performance indicators and metrics and generate monthly performance reports that identify high performance as well as any areas needing improvement. Prepare and deliver technical engineering study-based papers.
- Innovation and Development: Stay up to date on emerging technologies and identify opportunities to incorporate new advancements into projects.
- Perform other job-related duties, as required.
REQUIREMENTS - EDUCATION, TECHNICAL, AND WORK EXPERIENCEOne of the following education requirements must be met for this position:
- A bachelor's degree in an associated discipline and a minimum of 14 years of related experience
- A master's degree in an associated discipline and a minimum of 10 years of experience
- A PhD in an associated discipline and a minimum of eight (8) years of experience
In addition, a Computer Scientist V must possess the following qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise with computer-based systems and applications
- Senior-level programing skills in languages used for job-specific programming tasks
- Senior-level expertise in the application of industry standard hardware and software design and documentation techniques
- Extensive knowledge of systems engineering and software development lifecycles
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent planning/organizational skills
- Ability to work under deadlines
- Must possess a valid, state issued driver's license
- Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance
- Must be a U.S. citizen
SALARYThe expected salary range for this position is $140,000 to $190,000 annually.

WORKING CONDITIONSWork is performed in a typical office environment with no unusual hazards. Occasional lifting (up to 20 pounds), constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, and constant mental alertness are required.
Travel to remote company work locations may be required.
