Position OverviewO'Keefe Media Group is seeking a Communications Director to lead the organization's external communications strategy and help shape how our reporting, mission, and impact are communicated to the public.
This individual will serve as a key voice for the organization, managing media relations, public messaging, strategic communications, and reputation management. The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator who can operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, respond quickly to developing stories, and help amplify the reach and impact of our investigative journalism.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute OMG's communications strategy across media, public relations, and external communications channels.
- Draft and oversee press releases, public statements, media advisories, talking points, and executive communications.
- Manage relationships with journalists, media outlets, podcast hosts, and other external stakeholders.
- Coordinate media outreach surrounding investigations, major reports, events, and organizational announcements.
- Work closely with James O'Keefe and senior leadership to ensure consistent messaging and strategic communication priorities.
- Monitor media coverage and public sentiment, identifying opportunities and potential risks.
- Assist with crisis communications and rapid-response messaging as needed.
- Support speaking engagements, interviews, appearances, and public-facing initiatives.
- Maintain communication calendars and coordinate messaging across departments.
Qualifications- 5+ years of experience in communications, public relations, media relations, journalism, political communications, or a related field.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience drafting communications for executives, public figures, or organizations.
- Strong understanding of media relations and news cycles.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively under tight deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience working in journalism, media, advocacy, public affairs, political communications, or nonprofit communications.
- Existing relationships with journalists, producers, media outlets, and industry contacts.
- Experience supporting executive communications and public-facing leadership.
- Passion for investigative journalism and independent media.
