Responsibilities- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, histories, and physical examinations in the outpatient setting.
- Evaluate and manage patients with common gastrointestinal conditions, including:
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD),
Dyspepsia,
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS),
Constipation and diarrhea,
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD),
Gastrointestinal bleeding and anemia,
Colorectal cancer screening and surveillance needs. - Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising physicians.
- Order, interpret, and communicate laboratory, pathology, imaging, and endoscopic findings.
- Monitor treatment effectiveness and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.
- Serve as a clinical resource to improve patient access to screening and surveillance colonoscopy services.
- Facilitate timely colorectal cancer screening in accordance with evidence-based guidelines.
- Support physicians by identifying patients appropriate for endoscopic procedures.
- Facilitate scheduling of colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, and other GI procedures.
- Review patient histories, medications, risk factors, and pre-procedure requirements to ensure procedural readiness.
- Support care coordination across primary care, specialty care, and ancillary services.
- Partner closely with gastroenterologists to improve clinic efficiency and optimize patient throughput.
- Contribute to implementation of evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives.
- Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
- Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
- Regular and prompt attendance
- Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
- Related duties as assigned
Additional InformationEmployees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and completion of an approved nurse practitioner training program Required OR
- Completion of an accredited physician assistant training program Required
- NPC - Certified Nurse Practitioner Required and
- Licensure with the state of Alabama as a nurse practitioner and registered nurse Required or
- Licensure with the state of Alabama to practice as a Physician Assistant within 60 Days Required
- Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
