Job SummaryJob DetailsThis position is eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $10,000 and relocation assistance of up to $5,000.The Clinical Coordinator, Pharmacy Sterile Compounding Services at Akron General Hospital serves as the designated leader responsible for the oversight, compliance, quality, and operational excellence of sterile compounding services across the health system. This role ensures adherence to USP , USP , Joint Commission, state board of pharmacy, and organizational standards governing sterile medication preparation and administration.
Working closely with pharmacy leadership and operational teams, the Clinical Coordinator provides regulatory oversight, competency management, staff education, quality assurance monitoring, and process improvement initiatives related to sterile compounding activities. This position acts as the primary subject matter expert and trainer for sterile compounding practices while maintaining readiness for accreditation surveys and regulatory inspections.
Although primarily administrative in nature, the Clinical Coordinator is expected to maintain hands-on sterile compounding competency and actively support sterile operations when needed.
A caregiver in this position will work days, 7:30am-4pm, and will rotate as the administrator on-call as needed. Job duties will be evenly split between regulatory responsibilities and staffing coverage.A caregiver who excels in this role will:- Serve as the designated person responsible for sterile compounding operations in accordance with USP requirements.
- Oversee compliance with all sterile compounding regulations, policies, procedures, and quality standards.
- Maintain regulatory readiness and documentation for Joint Commission, Board of Pharmacy, and other accreditation or regulatory inspections.
- Monitor, interpret, and implement changes related to USP , USP , and sterile compounding standards.
- Ensure sterile compounding practices / policies align with regulatory requirements across inpatient, outpatient, and infusion service locations.
- Serve as the principal trainer and educational resource for sterile compounding personnel.
- Coordinate and maintain competency assessments (media fill tests, fingertip tests, etc.) for pharmacists, technicians, residents, and other compounding personnel.
- Demonstrate and validate sterile compounding competencies.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance programs for sterile compounding services.
- Ensure completion and maintenance of all required sterile compounding documentation, records, and competencies.
- Coordinate environmental monitoring, cleaning verification, air and surface sampling programs, and certification requirements.
- Oversee clean room certification processes and ensure regulatory compliance across all sterile compounding environments.
- Investigate, document, and address compliance concerns, variances, and quality improvement opportunities.
- Provide staffing at any of the sterile compounding locations in the Akron General system (Inpatient, Cancer Center, Bath, Green, Stow Infusion Centers), which may include covering PTO or absences.
Minimum qualifications include:- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) accredited university
- Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire
- Board-Certified Sterile Compounding Pharmacist (BCSCP) credentialing from the Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) or ASHP Sterile Compounding Certification(s) obtained within 6 months of start date
- Completion of a post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) plus a minimum of 1 year of experience providing pharmaceutical care in the relevant specialty area OR
- Completion of a post-graduate year 1 (PGY-1) residency plus a minimum of 3 years of experience providing pharmaceutical care in the relevant specialty area OR
- Minimum of 5 years of experience providing pharmaceutical care in the relevant specialty area
Preferred qualifications include:- Previous leadership experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:- Typical physical demands include ability to perform functions of the job while reaching and stretching, and manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer functions of job.
