CLAIMS EXAMINER (PROPERTY FOCUSED)

TORONTO

The Claims Examiner, reporting directly to the Vice President, Claims Specialty Insurance, will be responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and resolution of first party and third party commercial property and casualty claims.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage a portfolio of commercial property and casualty claims from first notice of loss to resolution.
  • Conduct coverage analysis and determine policy response.
  • Investigate losses by reviewing documentation, interviewing insureds and claimants, and coordinating with brokers, contractors and others as required.
  • Retaining and managing independent adjusters for field work as required.
  • Establish and maintain accurate reserves throughout the life of the claim.
  • Evaluate damages and negotiate settlements within authority level.
  • Prepare coverage correspondence, reservation of rights letters, and denial letters as required.
  • Monitor vendor performance and ensure timely progress toward claim resolution.
  • Authorize payments in accordance with company guidelines and authority levels.
  • Maintain complete and accurate claim documentation.
  • Identify potential recovery opportunities including subrogation and salvage.
  • Manage subrogation claims / litigation.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, risk management, and other internal stakeholders.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while managing claims in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Acting as a resource for various business units.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 to 7 years of property claims adjusting experience.
  • Experience handling commercial property claims preferred.
  • CIP designation completed or in progress.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong understanding of property policy wordings and coverage interpretation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and claims management systems.
  • Bilingual (English/French) an asset but not required.

Salary:

  • The expected salary in this position is within the range of $100,000 - $150,000


This salary range reflects the expected base compensation for the role across Canada. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and scope of responsibilities. Trisura provides this range in good faith in accordance with applicable legislation.
