What We're Looking For

Michael Baker International is seeking a Project Manager to support the continued growth of our Alexandria Civil Engineering & Environmental (CEE) practice-which has experienced over 80% growth in the past two years.

The Project Manager will manage civil engineering projects from a diverse portfolio, lead and work across multidisciplinary project teams, maintain client relationships, oversee project financial performance, and support business development efforts. This role will help expand our capacity to successfully deliver projects for municipal, state, federal, and private-sector clients across the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.

What You'll Do

• Manage and deliver civil engineering projects from scoping through design and construction-phase support.
• Support larger, more complex multidisciplinary projects as the civil discipline task lead or a key civil team member.
• Develop and manage project scopes, work plans, schedules, budgets, staffing, quality, and invoicing.
• Oversee preparation and review of engineering studies, calculations, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, subconsultants, and internal technical teams to deliver high-quality work.
• Identify and resolve technical, schedule, budget, and resource issues during project delivery.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers and support a collaborative team environment.
• Support client service and business development through proposal support, scope and fee development, interviews, and relationship management.

What You Need to Succeed

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related field
• 12+ years of progressive experience in civil engineering, water resources, project delivery, and client service
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Virginia PE preferred, or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Maryland PE is a plus
• Experience managing civil engineering assignments and coordinating multidisciplinary teams
• Strong understanding of scope, schedule, budget, forecasting, invoicing, and quality management
• Experience serving municipal, state, federal, commercial, or institutional clients
• Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-management skills
• Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining quality and responsiveness

Technical Skills

• Experience with site development, stormwater management, drainage, green infrastructure, and municipal infrastructure
• Strong understanding of civil project delivery from planning through construction support
• Experience reviewing engineering studies, technical memoranda, calculations, plans, specifications, and cost estimates
• Working knowledge of hydrology/hydraulics, stormwater design, erosion and sediment control, grading, drainage, and utility coordination
• Familiarity with Civil 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation/OpenRoads (preferred, not required), and standard project delivery tools
• Familiarity with local, state, and federal permitting and agency coordination

Compensation

The approximate salary range for this position is $131,015 - $226,967.
This range represents a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend on experience, skillset, education, and location.
