Job Summary:

Head of Finance provides overall financial leadership for ADF Engineering and serves as a key strategic partner to the President and Board of Directors in advancing the company's growth, profitability, and long-term success. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in finance topics: accounting, budgeting, capital planning, financial reporting, business analytics & reporting. Candidate will need effective management practices, combining strong financial acumen with a commercial mindset and an ability to operate at both tactical and strategic levels. This individual must be able to influence, challenge, and support operational leaders in a collaborative manner. The role requires the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality to build credibility, influence stakeholders, and foster trusted relationships across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead all finance and accounting functions for the organization.
  • Own the monthly close to GAAP-including project-based revenue recognition and WIP accrual-AP, AR, payroll, treasury/banking, and net working capital tracking.
  • Oversee project accounting, WIP, utilization, backlog, job costing, and project profitability.
  • Improve working capital, billing, collections, and cash-flow forecasting.
  • Lead FP&A reporting, budgeting, and P&L and cash flow forecasts, surfacing the performance trends, risks, and opportunities that drive visibility and enable strategic decision-making.
  • Support M&A through diligence on add-on acquisitions pre-close and own the integration dashboard and financial integration post-close.
  • Drive financial and operational decision-making that supports revenue growth, profitability improvement, and long-term value creation.
  • Lead the continuous improvement of financial processes, systems, and internal controls while ensuring compliance with budgets, accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and financial policies.
  • Develop constructive relationships with external partners, lenders, auditors, and other stakeholders as appropriate to the role.
  • Establish and document finance processes and SOPs, and build out the finance team over time as the business scales.

Qualifications:
  • Progressive finance leadership experience, ideally as a Director of Finance, VP of Finance, CFO, or a Controller ready to step up with exposure to the full finance function.
  • Strong FP&A orientation and business/operational finance skill set; a strategic finance partner who is still willing to own the fundamentals
  • Hands-on operator comfortable in a lean, fast-moving, growth environment.
  • Experience with GAAP, financial modeling, and building financial infrastructure and reporting.
  • Experience in engineering, professional services, or another project-based business.
  • Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) software tailored to the Engineering/Architecture industry such as Deltek Vantagepoint, NetSuite, Unanet, or BQE, etc.
  • Experience in a Private Equity-backed environment with exposure to M&A
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA, MBA, or CMA a plus.

Additional Information:
  • Reports to the President, with dual reporting to the investment sponsors
  • Full Time, a minimum of 40 hours per week.
  • Position is based on-site at ADF's Miamisburg, OH (South Dayton) office. Candidates in or willing to relocate to the greater Dayton area (including the Cincinnati and Columbus corridors) are encouraged to apply.
