Chief Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Chief Engineer to oversee all aspects of hotel maintenance, engineering, and preventative maintenance for our full-service hotel. The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel's physical assets, ensuring a safe environment for guests and associates, and leading the engineering team to provide exceptional service while maintaining brand standards.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Engineering Department.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate engineering and maintenance team members.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for all guest rooms, public areas, mechanical equipment, and hotel systems.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, fire life safety, kitchen equipment, and building automation systems.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations.
  • Coordinate repairs and projects with outside contractors and vendors.
  • Monitor maintenance expenses and assist in managing the department budget.
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with brand standards and property maintenance requirements.
  • Perform routine inspections of guest rooms, public spaces, meeting rooms, back-of-house areas, and building equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, equipment logs, and preventative maintenance documentation.
  • Participate in capital improvement planning and equipment replacement recommendations.
  • Work closely with all hotel departments to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
  • Participate in the manager-on-duty schedule as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of engineering or maintenance leadership experience in a hotel or comparable commercial facility.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical systems, and general building maintenance.
  • Experience with preventative maintenance programs and work order systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment and building systems efficiently.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call emergency situations.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or trade certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions as needed.
