Position Summary

Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) invites applications for Chair, Department of Endodontics. This full-time 12-month appointment type on either a clinical or tenure-track (Preferably TT) appointment at the rank of associate professor or full professor, based upon credentials and qualifications. The anticipated start date of January 1, 2027, or sooner. For candidates seeking appointment on the tenure track, application materials must include evidence of sustained scholarly activity consistent with School and University expectations.

The successful candidate should have academic leadership experience, a national reputation for excellence in the discipline of Endodontics, documented success in leading strategic initiatives and a strong record of scholarship and research.

The Department of Endodontics is responsible for the endodontics education of pre-doctoral dental students and graduate students in our Endodontics residency program.

The Department Chair provides leadership for the vision, strategic direction, and long-term growth of the Department of Endodontics in alignment with the mission and priorities of the School of Dentistry. The Chair is responsible for overseeing departmental operations, faculty and staff supervision, curriculum management, and fiscal stewardship. This role includes mentoring and evaluating faculty; providing input on promotion, tenure, reappointment, and merit processes; and ensuring high-quality didactic and clinical education within the full scope of Endodontics.

The Chair reports to the Dean. The Chair works collaboratively with other members of the Dean's cabinet, including department chairs, and associate deans, as well as the Office of Clinical Affairs team to support effective clinical education, patient care, and faculty development. Responsibilities include managing departmental curriculum and academic workload assignments, aligning teaching responsibilities with clinical operations, ensuring compliance with CODA accreditation standards and institutional policies, and supporting faculty scholarship and professional growth. The Chair communicates regularly with the Dean, participates in school leadership and committee meetings, and serves as a key liaison between departmental faculty and School administration.

There is an expectation that the Chair will play a teaching role as part of their duties and responsibilities; providing clinical and classroom teaching and supervision.There are opportunities for the Chair to supervise and mentor residents in research related to their postdoctoral program and assist in the preparation of postdoctoral dental students for specialty board examinations. Faculty members are expected to foster transformative learning that is informed by interdisciplinary and translational research, scholarship, and creative expression.
