Job Type
Full-time
Description
San Rafael, CA | Mercedes-Benz | Luxury European | Diagnostic technician | Master technician | XENTRY | Advanced diagnostics | Electrical | Flat rate | Marin County | Bay Area | North Bay | Mercedes-Benz diagnostic experience required | Veterans encouraged to apply | $120,000 - $168,000+/yr
IS THIS YOU?
• You're the technician other technicians bring the hard ones to - intermittent faults, no-start no-codes, complex electrical, and multi-system failures that have already stumped someone else are the work you do best, and your diagnostic process is methodical enough that you solve them without guessing
• You have deep Mercedes-Benz platform experience - XENTRY, DAS, and the MB electrical architecture are tools you work with fluently, not systems you're still learning
• You're ready to own the most technically demanding diagnostic work in a well-run Marin County Mercedes-Benz shop at a flat-rate structure that reflects what advanced diagnostic expertise is actually worth
WHAT YOU'LL DO
• Serve as the shop's primary diagnostic resource for complex, escalated, and unresolved vehicle faults - receiving difficult cases from other technicians and service advisors when standard diagnostic approaches haven't produced a confirmed root cause
• Perform advanced fault diagnosis across Mercedes-Benz's full model range - complex electrical faults, intermittent failures, multi-system interaction issues, CAN bus and network faults, ADAS calibration, and high-voltage EQ system diagnostics
• Use XENTRY, DAS, and Mercedes-Benz factory diagnostic procedures at an expert level - going beyond guided fault trees to apply platform knowledge and first-principles diagnostic reasoning
• Develop and document clear diagnostic findings and repair paths - communicating confirmed root causes and recommended repairs to service advisors with the precision that supports accurate guest authorization
• Perform test drives to reproduce reported symptoms, validate diagnostic conclusions, and confirm repair quality before vehicle return
• Serve as a technical resource for other shop technicians - providing diagnostic direction on difficult cases without necessarily performing every repair yourself
• Stay current on Mercedes-Benz technical service bulletins, platform updates, and EQ high-voltage system developments
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Deep Mercedes-Benz diagnostic experience - required. This role exists because general diagnostic capability isn't sufficient for the cases it handles. Platform-specific knowledge of MB electrical architecture, XENTRY, DAS, and factory diagnostic procedures is the baseline
• Mercedes-Benz Master Technician certification strongly preferred - candidates with equivalent demonstrated diagnostic depth and platform expertise will be considered
• Proven track record on complex diagnostic work - intermittent faults, no-code failures, multi-system electrical, and cases that required methodical root-cause analysis rather than symptom-based repair
• EQ high-voltage system diagnostic experience a meaningful advantage as MB's electrified lineup expands
• Clear, precise communicator - your diagnostic findings have to be accurate and documented well enough that a service advisor can explain the repair path to a guest with confidence
• Self-directed and efficient on flat rate - advanced diagnostic work rewards depth and accuracy over speed, and this pay structure reflects that
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
WHAT WE OFFER
• $120,000 - $168,000+/yr
• Paid Mercedes-Benz advanced diagnostic and technical training
• Medical, dental, and vision insurance
• Life insurance and supplemental coverage options
• Paid time off and paid holidays
• A dedicated diagnostic role - no general repair queue, no competing priorities. Your job is solving the hardest problems in the shop
• Employee vehicle purchase and service discounts
WHY MERCEDES-BENZ OF MARIN
• A dedicated diagnostic specialist role is rare in dealership fixed ops - most shops ask their best technician to diagnose and repair everything. This role is structured around diagnosis specifically, which means the work stays at the level where your expertise is most valuable
• Marin County's MB ownership community is loyal, high-expectation, and drives a technically sophisticated vehicle mix - AMG, EQ, S-Class, and specialty models are a regular part of the diagnostic workload here, not occasional exceptions
• A flat-rate structure that doesn't require you to compete with the general repair queue to earn it
• Swickard is one of the fastest-growing dealer groups in the country - ranked Top 5 in North America for reputation in the automotive industry
• Our HEART values - Honor, Engage, Anticipate, Respond, Thank - define how we treat our technicians and our guests in equal measure
If you're a Mercedes-Benz diagnostic specialist who solves the problems others can't, works with methodical precision on the platform's most complex faults, and wants a dedicated role and a pay structure that reflects that expertise - apply.
