Cast House Manager
Job SummaryThe Cast House Manager is responsible for overseeing all cast house operations related to the production of chill cast aluminum logs. This role ensures safe, efficient, and consistent casting operations while meeting quality, cost, and production objectives. The Cast House Manager leads daily operations, manages staff, controls process parameters, and works closely with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, and Production teams to support downstream extrusion requirements and continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities- Follows safe work procedures, lead by example in regards safety practices.
- Manage scrap inventory levels to ensure alignment with financial goals.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality to drive capex projects and continues improvement activities.
- Confers with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, and to obtain data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
- Plans and directs production activities and establishes production priorities for products in keeping with effective operations and cost factors.
- Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
- Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
- Develops and implements operating methods and procedures to resolve operational issues and improve product quality.
- Revises production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.
- Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment to improve production and quality of products.
- Conducts grievance hearings, works to resolve or settle grievances, and refers unresolved matters for management-union negotiations.
- Compiles, stores, and retrieves production data.
Education and Experience- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field required.
- 7-10 years of experience in aluminum manufacturing, casting operations, or melt shop environments.
- Experience supporting billet production for aluminum extrusion operations is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of aluminum casting processes, alloy chemistry, melt practices, and defect prevention.
