CAE Engineer - Closures & DurabilityOverview / Summary We are seeking a CAE Engineer with experience in Closures-related CAE or Structural CAE analysis within the Automotive or Aerospace industry. The role focuses on structural CAE analysis for automotive closures and sheet metal, including NVH, durability, fatigue, and non-linear impact analyses. The engineer will develop and validate design countermeasures, perform iterative CAE analyses, support functional issue resolution, and work with cross-functional teams to address complex system-level issues.
This is a hybrid position requiring four days per week in the office.
Key Responsibilities - Perform CAE analysis and provide issue resolution within program deadlines.
- Develop CAE models and analysis plans to support program milestones.
- Perform structural CAE analysis related to automotive closures and sheet metal.
- Conduct NVH, durability, fatigue, and non-linear impact analyses.
- Build and set up finite element (FE) models and perform iterative CAE analyses to identify and resolve design issues.
- Support resolution of functional issues within cross-functional teams.
- Develop and validate design countermeasures related to closures.
- Support systems engineering activities to resolve complex closures system-level issues.
- Create CAE engineering status reports and verify the completeness and accuracy of CAE assessments.
- Provide program design alternatives using DOE and CAE optimization studies.
- Optimize the function and cost of forward model systems using CAE tools.
- Develop or improve CAE methods and processes and incorporate them into program applications.
- Lead cross-functional alignment between different functions to comply with requirements.
- Support the development of standards and methods.
- Support ongoing improvement and automation of CAE processes.
- Develop and present reports to management as required.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- 3-5 years of experience in Closures-related CAE or Structural CAE.
- Experience with NVH, durability, and/or fatigue CAE analysis in the Automotive or Aerospace industry.
- Knowledge of linear static and non-linear dynamic analyses, including impact finite element analyses.
- Experience with meshing and post-processing software such as ANSA, HyperMesh, HyperView, and MetaPost.
- Experience with CAE analysis software such as Abaqus, Nastran, LS-Dyna, nCode, OptiStruct, and/or HyperWorks.
- Experience building and setting up FE models and performing iterative CAE analyses.
- Experience verifying the accuracy and completeness of CAE assessments and providing milestone engineering status reports.
- Experience utilizing CAE DOE and optimization studies to identify design alternatives.
- CAE analysis and analyst experience.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with HyperMesh and CAD/meshing tools.
- Understanding of different CAE methods, including Explicit and Implicit.
- Automotive product development experience.
- Programming experience with Python, MATLAB, or other programming languages.
- Experience with multi-objective optimization using CAE.
- Experience with optimization software such as ModeFrontier, HEEDS, or iSight.
- Structural optimization experience using OptiStruct or Tosca.
- Knowledge of closures interface components such as seals, bumpers, and wedges.
- Knowledge of closures-related hardware such as hinges, latches, and handles.
- FMEA skills and experience related to regulatory requirements and WCRs.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes related to design constraints.
- Master's degree or PhD in Engineering.
- Strong business acumen and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working in cross-functional teams.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to travel on company business as required.
