Job DescriptionDewberry is seeking a Business Unit Manager to lead our Northern California operations, including Rancho Cordova, Manteca, and Fresno. This strategic leadership role is responsible for driving market growth, overseeing business performance, developing client relationships, and leading a high-performing engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and executing regional strategy while collaborating with transportation, water, and infrastructure leaders across California and the enterprise.
The ideal candidate is a market-facing leader with a strong engineering consulting background, proven P&L responsibility, and a track record of growing teams, expanding client relationships, and delivering profitable results.
Responsibilities
- Lead overall business unit performance, including operations, financial management, strategic planning, and quality delivery.
- Develop and execute growth strategies across transportation, water, and infrastructure markets.
- Cultivate and expand relationships with public-sector clients, industry partners, and key stakeholders throughout California.
- Drive business development efforts and position Dewberry for pursuit and delivery of complex engineering projects.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-office team of engineers, project managers, and technical professionals.
- Foster collaboration across service lines to maximize client value and expand opportunities.
- Support recruiting, workforce planning, and succession strategies aligned with business growth.
- Represent Dewberry through active involvement in professional organizations and industry leadership initiatives.
Required Skills & Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering required; advanced degree or MBA preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 20+ years of engineering consulting experience, including significant work with public-sector clients.
- 10+ years of leadership experience managing operations with P&L accountability.
- Strong network and established relationships within California's transportation, water, and infrastructure markets.
- Demonstrated success driving business growth, expanding client relationships, and leading high-performing teams.
- Proven ability to develop and execute strategic initiatives while collaborating across diverse stakeholders and service lines.
- Ability to coach and mentor staff.
- Strong client management and business development skills.
- Active participation in industry, professional, and community organizations preferred.

Salary Range
The projected range for this position is $281,000 to $334,000 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly.
