Full Job Description
Position Title: Business Intelligence Engineer Location: U.S. Department of Agriculture 1400 Independence Ave., SW Washington, DC 20250 Period of Performance: Start Date: One 1-year base period plus 1-year option periods Place of Performance: Remote (Mostly Remote - needs to be able to attend meetings at USDA in DC) Position Summary: The Business Intelligence (BI) Engineer will support the USDA's Enterprise Human Capital Modernization & Transformation initiative. In this role, you will design, build, and maintain enterprise-level dashboards, robust data models, and reporting layers. You will serve as the technical bridge between Human Capital stakeholders and the data environment-translating complex operational needs into scalable, high-performing BI products while upholding strict data quality, governance, and architectural standards. Key Responsibilities: • Core Deliverables: Dashboards, reporting, data quality metrics, analytics, governance reporting. • Data Quality & Cleansing: Data quality assessments, dashboards, cleanup campaigns, standards compliance. • Data Governance & Metadata Management: Metadata standards, stewardship, lineage, authoritative data sources. • Testing & Validation: Test cases, reconciliation scripts, UAT coordination, data verification. • Databricks Lakehouse Support: Lakehouse architecture, security design, common data model, migration framework, reporting and analytics. Required Qualifications: • Years of Experience: 5+ years of progressive professional experience in business intelligence, data engineering, data modeling, or analytics roles. • BI Product Development: Experience developing and maintaining dashboards, data models, reporting layers, and scalable BI products supporting stakeholder reporting and analytical requirements. • Data Quality Dashboards: Experience building data quality dashboards supporting legacy HCM data cleanup monitoring and agency-driven cleanup campaigns. • Stakeholder Requirements: Experience translating Human Capital stakeholder requirements into reporting and analytical data products while maintaining data quality and governance. • USDA Databricks Lakehouse Support: Experience supporting governed HCM data for reporting and analytics within the USDA Databricks Lakehouse. (Note: The Lakehouse serves as USDA's governed repository for HCM reporting and analytics). • Data Models & Lineage: Experience working with data models, authoritative sources, metadata, lineage, governance attributes, and data-quality requirements supporting reporting and analytics. • Governance Alignment: Experience aligning BI products with Human Capital Data governance and metadata-management requirements, including USDA and OPM governance expectations. Education • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, or Computer Engineering.
