FLSA Classification: Exempt
Salary: $100,000.00
About the Role
As Business Development Manager, you will own the full commercial lifecycle on your assigned category accounts - from prospecting and first conversation through proposal, close, and ongoing relationship management. This is a core revenue-generating role for someone who thrives in a high-growth environment, is hungry to build, and brings discipline and drive to move deals forward every single day.
This role requires a minimum of 3 in-person days per week at our Long Island City, NY facility plus some travel. Relationship-building with internal teams and customers happens face to face here, and your physical presence matters.

Customer Relationships & Deal Execution - Own customer relationships on assigned category accounts from prospecting to deal close - you carry the relationship from first contact through signed business
- Build and maintain account plans that reflect pipeline targets, deal status, and growth potential
- Prepare for and actively contribute to weekly BD team meetings - come with updates, flag risks, and bring solutions
- Identify expansion opportunities within existing accounts and surface them proactively to the VP
Pipeline & Proposals - Maintain a current, accurate pipeline; update CRM daily with prospect and account activity - no exceptions
- Respond to RFPs and build proposals with speed and accuracy; escalate to Sr. BD Manager when senior support is needed
- Monitor open orders and flag any delivery or service issues as they arise
- Review weekly OOR for assigned accounts and align with Sr. BD Manager on priorities

- Support Sr. BD Manager on customer escalations and complex deal structures
- Collaborate with Associate BD Manager/Admin on day-to-day account support, CRM updates, and quote entry
- Host customer site visits and represent PML at trade shows and customer events
Operational Rhythm
- Review and respond to customer communications daily - urgency and responsiveness are non-negotiable
- Prepare monthly account performance summaries for the VP
- Review pricing and margin on assigned accounts monthly; flag anything that needs attention
- Align with the VP on category account priorities at the start of each month
What High Performance Looks Like Here
High performers in this role are relentless without being reactive. They know their pipeline cold, move deals forward without being pushed, and treat every customer interaction as a chance to build trust. They don't wait for direction - they bring problems and solutions at the same time.
A high performer in this role will:
- Hit deal close and revenue targets for assigned accounts quarter over quarter
- Keep CRM data current and pipeline accuracy tight - without being reminded
- Surface account risks to the Sr. BD Manager and VP early, with context and a recommended path forward
- Build customer relationships that make PML the preferred partner - not just the current one
- Come to every BD meeting prepared with a point of view, not just a status update
- Support and develop the Associate BD Manager/Admin on their team, raising the standard around them
Growth & Career Trajectory
This role is a deliberate step on a defined career path. Prime Matter Labs promotes from within, and the track from BD Manager to Senior BD Manager - and ultimately to VP of Sales - is tied to what you deliver, not how long you've been here.
As you hit milestones and demonstrate high-performer behaviors, you can expect:
- Opportunities for growth - with expanded account ownership, category strategy responsibility, and formal mentorship of junior BD team members
- Bonus upside - our bonus structure rewards performance, and top performers see meaningful differentiation year over year
- Salary growth - compensation reviews are tied to achievement. Exceptional performance gets recognized outside the standard annual cycle
- Growing management responsibility - demonstrate strong mentorship of Associate BD Managers and formal people management follows
- Increased strategic visibility - high performers earn a seat at category planning and BD strategy conversations earlier than the title might suggest
We are straightforward about expectations and equally straightforward about reward. If you deliver here, your career moves fast.
