Candidate Profile

The Building Science Project Engineer will work as an active team member within project teams, from assessment, conceptual, and preliminary stages of the project design through to its completion. The successful candidate is experienced in leading their own Building Science projects, and is self-motivated, with a desire to continually learn and grow. A commitment to providing exceptional client service and developing technical expertise to deliver practical, creative solutions is key.

Salary: $90,000 - $110,000

Key Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Working independently or with a Design Engineer within the project team to take a project from the preliminary conceptual stage through the construction and project close-out stages
  • Liaising and coordinating directly with developer and architectural clients as building enclosure consultant for new and adaptive re-use building projects
  • Conducting thermal and hygrothermal analysis of building enclosure materials, components and assemblies
  • Building envelope detailing, and building envelope detail review of architectural drawings and specifications
  • Awareness of the designer's influence on constructability and project costs
  • Construction field review while projects are under construction
  • Preliminary site investigations and detailed evaluations of existing buildings
  • Preparation of evaluation reports, studies, and project budgets
  • Development of drawings and specifications for rehabilitation and deep energy retrofit projects
  • Design and analysis to determine effective repair alternatives
  • Prime consulting including coordination with other engineering and architectural disciplines
  • Review and analysis of bids submitted by contractors
  • Contract administration of rehabilitation and deep energy retrofit projects
  • An understanding of the responsibilities and prevue of each respective design discipline and construction trade
  • Contract negotiations and dispute resolution
  • Spearheading designs, chairing meetings, acting as client liaison, working with contractors to analyze solutions to unforeseen conditions during the construction phase


Professional Qualifications & Experience

EDUCATION

  • Degree in Civil Engineering - Preference may be given for those candidates with completed courses in Building Science.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng).


EXPERIENCE

  • 7 - 10 years' of building science experience
  • Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset.
  • Experience in the construction industry considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated supervision of 2 or 3 EITs / engineers / technologists considered an asset.
