Position: Inspection Team Leader

Location: Indianapolis, IN

 

American Structurepoint is seeking a Bridge Inspection Team Lead to join our Bridge Group in Indianapolis. This role will lead bridge inspection teams and oversee the inspection and evaluation of bridges in accordance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), state Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) standards.

 

The ideal candidate is an experienced bridge inspection professional who enjoys leading teams, developing staff, working directly with clients, and applying their technical expertise to complex bridge inspection and structural evaluation projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead routine, fracture-critical, and special bridge inspections in accordance with NBIS requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor field technicians and junior inspectors while coordinating multiple inspection teams.
  • Plan, organize, and direct field inspection activities while maintaining a strong focus on safety.
  • Perform structural evaluations and document bridge conditions, deficiencies, and recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, load ratings, and repair recommendations using applicable engineering software.
  • Utilize AASHTOWare BrR and other structural analysis and asset management tools.
  • Apply non-destructive testing methods as appropriate during bridge inspections.
  • Ensure inspection work complies with applicable state DOT and FHWA standards and requirements.
  • Communicate directly with agency representatives regarding bridge conditions, inspection findings, and maintenance priorities.
  • Assist with internal engineering and office production activities during periods of limited field inspection work.
  • Contribute to the development of junior staff and help build the next generation of bridge inspection professionals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Active certification as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader meeting applicable state and NBIS requirements.
  • Minimum of 6+ years of bridge inspection and structural evaluation experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS).
  • Proficiency with AASHTOWare BrR and structural modeling/analysis software.
  • Experience with non-destructive testing methods.
  • Strong technical report-writing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to effectively lead multiple inspection teams and work collaboratively with clients and internal teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Nonredundant Steel Tension Member (NSTM) certification (Course 130078).
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior inspectors.
  • Experience working directly with state DOTs or other transportation agencies.
