Job Description :

The New York Post is seeking an enterprising DC-based Breaking News Politics Reporter to join our growing DC team and cover the fast-moving world of Washington politics. This reporter will write about the big political stories of the day, spot trending news, and bring readers sharp, authoritative coverage of how decisions in the capital shape the nation.

Responsibilities:
  • Report and write breaking news and enterprise stories on DC politics and government actions.
  • Spot news from political interviews, speeches and social media postings
  • Land interviews with power brokers in DC politics
  • Cover legislative battles, policy shifts, elections, and key political figures.
  • Break exclusive stories and find fresh angles on widely covered issues.
  • Build and maintain a strong network of sources, from lawmakers and lobbyists to administration and campaign officials.
  • Stay on top of political developments in real time and file timely, accurate copy.
  • Use public records, FOIA requests, and social media to surface and verify stories.
  • Work closely with editors and colleagues to produce fast, engaging coverage across digital and social platforms.

  • Experience writing about the White House and Congress and building sources within the Trump administration
  • Fast, accurate and efficient, high-impact reporting

Note: This role will be expected to report into the Washington, DC Bureau.

Base Pay Range: $75,000 - $90,000
