About the RoleHub International's M&A Integration (MAI) team is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive the technical execution of BMS migration projects for MGA acquisitions. This is not a conventional data engineering role. Success here requires equal parts technical fluency and investigative curiosity - the ability to reverse-engineer unfamiliar systems, surface ambiguity proactively, and drive decisions to closure without waiting to be told what to do.
As the technical lead, you will define the engineering approaches, tooling, and standards used across SPG's AIM and Imageright migration program. You will mentor a team of engineers, own escalations, and serve as the primary technical bridge between migration analysis (business-to-technical translation) and delivery. You will be expected to operate confidently in under-specified environments where source data is murky, documentation is thin, and the fastest path forward requires asking the right questions of the right people.
This role also requires a genuine comfort with AI-augmented workflows. SPG's migration practice leverages AI tools - including large language models - as a force multiplier at every stage: schema analysis, transformation logic, mapping specification review, SQL generation, and documentation. The right candidate sees this as an advantage and builds it into their process, not as a novelty to be evaluated later.
Occasional weekend availability is required to support go-live events.

Technical Leadership, Standards & Mentorship30%
Stakeholder Engagement & Ambiguity Resolution20%
Documentation, Methodology & Continuous Improvement10%
Migration Engineering & Technical Execution (40%)- Design and build multi-stage Python extraction pipelines from source BMS databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server) to target defined SQL output, preserving raw pull integrity and applying transforms as a separate, auditable layer
- Implement AIM and IR mapping specifications produced by the Migration Analyst, translating field-level business rules into production-grade SQL and Python with validation assertions
- Build and maintain the SPG migration platform: source crawlers, schema extractors, transformation modules, consistency gates, and pre-Vertafore validation tooling
- Write optimized SQL across multiple dialects to extract, join, and stage data from legacy insurance systems with incomplete or undocumented schemas
- Diagnose and resolve data quality issues surfaced during QA cycles; identify root cause at the schema or transform level before proceeding
- Ensure all engineering output is reproducible, version-controlled, and structured to support iterative QA loops with Vertafore
Technical Leadership, Standards & Mentorship (30%)- Define the engineering approaches, tooling choices, and quality standards that the SPG data engineering team uses across all BMS migration engagements
- Serve as the technical escalation point for the team; when engineers are stuck or producing incorrect output, diagnose the problem and correct the approach
- Mentor data engineers on SQL patterns, Python best practices, schema analysis methodology, and the investigative mindset required to succeed in ambiguous migration environments
- Review engineering output before it reaches validation or external delivery; own the quality gate
- Drive adoption of AI-augmented workflows across the team - modeling how to use tools like Claude to accelerate schema analysis, code generation, and documentation without sacrificing rigor
Stakeholder Engagement & Ambiguity Resolution (20%)- Proactively surface questions about source data, business rules, and migration scope - before they become blocking issues - through direct engagement with source system SMEs and operations stakeholders
- Drive clarification conversations to a decision, not a parking lot; distinguish between questions that need a business answer and questions that can be resolved through schema investigation
- Translate technical findings into clear, actionable language for non-technical stakeholders; communicate what the data shows, what it implies operationally, and what decision is needed
- Partner with the Migration Analyst to validate that mapping specifications are technically feasible before engineering begins; flag risks early
- Engage directly with Vertafore and other third-party vendors on data format requirements, load specifications, and QA feedback resolution
Documentation, Methodology & Continuous Improvement (10%)- Maintain and improve SPG's migration engineering playbooks, runbooks, and reusable tooling so each project builds on the last
- Extract generalizable patterns from project work and codify them as reusable standards rather than one-off solutions
- Contribute to post-migration retrospectives with the goal of reducing average timeline and improving first-pass QA quality
Ongoing Responsibilities- Manage concurrent BMS migration engagements at different project stages; maintain momentum across multiple active workstreams
- Participate in team and stakeholder meetings with a bias toward resolution - come prepared, identify what is blocking progress, and leave with clear next steps
- Support go-live events with weekend availability as needed; monitor post-load data quality and resolve post-migration data issues quickly
- Stay current with Vertafore AIM platform capabilities and ingestion requirements as the platform evolves
What You BringRequired Qualifications- 5+ years of hands-on data engineering experience, with demonstrated ability to extract, transform, and load data from relational databases using Python and SQL
- Strong SQL proficiency across multiple dialects (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server); comfortable writing complex joins, subqueries, and schema investigation queries against undocumented databases
- Fluency in Python for data pipeline development, including ETL scripting, automation, and data quality assertion logic
- Experience working with insurance BMS platforms, with direct familiarity with Vertafore AIM data structures strongly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to reverse-engineer unfamiliar systems by reading schemas, querying live databases, and cross-referencing against business context - without relying on complete documentation
- Proven track record of driving ambiguous projects to clarity through proactive communication, targeted questioning, and independent investigation
- Practical experience using AI tools (LLMs such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) as a productivity tool in technical work - for code generation, documentation, schema analysis, or data review
- Experience in a technical lead, senior, or principal engineering role with responsibility for mentoring others and setting technical direction
Preferred Qualifications- Direct experience with BMS conversion projects in an MGA or wholesale insurance environment, including familiarity with MGA-specific data structures (surplus lines, bordereau, binding authority, policy fee accounting)
- Familiarity with HUB's SPG integration model and M&A acquisition workflows
- Knowledge of ImageRight document migration workflows and file-system-based document ingestion patterns
- Experience building validation tooling that allows business stakeholders to review transformed data before external system loads - reducing costly rework cycles
- Background in data governance, source-of-truth discipline, and single-source build systems for migration specifications
- Familiarity with carrier download processing or other insurance data interchange standards
