The Opportunity The BIM Design Lead serves as the senior technical authority for Building Information Modeling (BIM) design and production within the Project Engineering organization. This role leads the development, coordination, and quality assurance of complex BIM models and construction documentation supporting mission-critical facilities, including data centers and hyperscale campuses.
The BIM Design Lead establishes modeling standards, mentors BIM Modelers, drives continuous process improvement, and collaborates with Project Managers, Engineers, and Construction teams to ensure technically accurate, constructible, and coordinated project deliverables.
What you will do? - Serve as the technical lead for BIM modeling standards and best practices.
- Review BIM deliverables for quality, constructability, and compliance with company standards.
- Mentor BIM Modelers and BIM Coordinators through technical guidance and coaching.
- Support onboarding and technical training of new BIM staff.
- Assist Project Managers with technical planning, staffing recommendations, and workload forecasting.
- Drive continuous improvement of BIM standards, libraries, templates, and workflows.
- Create and manage detailed 3D models using BIM tools such as Revit, Navisworks, or other discipline-specific software.
- Produce and review drawings, layouts, and model-based documentation for engineering and construction teams.
- Lead model coordination efforts, identify clashes, and work with engineers and project managers to resolve issues.
- Maintain BIM standards, templates, libraries, and file structures across assigned projects.
- Support project planning by estimating modeling hours, defining deliverables, and ensuring schedule alignment.
- Mentor junior designers and provide guidance on modeling techniques, standards, and quality expectations.
- Collaborate with engineering, design, and construction teams to ensure models accurately reflect project requirements.
- Leads the development and continuous improvement of BIM standards, workflows, automation, and digital delivery processes across the organization.
- Prepare model exports, visualizations, and reports to support design reviews and field activities.
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered for highly qualified candidates.
- Typically 5+ years of experience in a design or modeling role using BIM software such as Revit, Navisworks, or other discipline-specific tools.
- Solid understanding of design principles, construction documentation, and industry standards.
- Skilled in model coordination, clash detection, and resolving model-related issues with cross-functional project teams.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, organization, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
