Job Description

We are recruiting for a Bilingual Client Agreement Auditor to join our team in our Quebec, Montréal, Toronto, Calgary or Vancouver office. Bilingualism is required as this is a collaborative role at the national level and the candidate will be required to provide service to firm stakeholders in both French and English. McCarthy Tétrault employees benefit from a hybrid work environment.

 

The salary range for this role is $78,000 - $99,000 annually. The final offer will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and job-relevant knowledge. Please note that this range is intended to provide guidance; actual compensation may vary within this range depending on the qualifications and expertise of the selected candidate. This is a newly created position. 

 

As a Client Agreement Auditor, you will be responsible for:

 

Engagement Letter Auditing & Compliance

  • Conducting audits of engagement letters to ensure compliance with firm policies, regulatory requirements, and client obligations.
  • Reviewing engagement letters for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with approved templates and standard provisions.
  • Identifying potential compliance concerns, and escalating issues as appropriate
  • Tracking audit findings and preparing reports highlighting trends and risks.
  • Providing training to Legal Assistants and Lawyers regarding the firm’s Engagement Letter requirements and processes.
  • Collaborating with lawyers, legal assistants, and business professionals to addressing deficiencies identified during audits.
  • Maintaining records relating to engagement letter reviews, audit results, and remediation activities.
  • Assisting with developing and updating engagement letter templates, standards, and best practices.

Outside Counsel Guidelines (OCGs) Management

  • Managing the administration of the firm's OCG process including:
  • Reviewing client intake forms in Intapp Intake to ensure that OCGs are correctly referenced and are up to date.
  • Identifying OCGs against the firm’s key client list, ensuring the most up-to-date OCGs are available and finalized.
  • Overseeing the management of OCG terms in Intapp Terms and ensuring that relevant approvals are in place.
  • Reviewing outside counsel requests and ensuring the collection of required supporting documentation.
  • Coordinating the review of outside counsel guidelines, retention agreements, and related documentation.
  • Monitoring compliance with firm policies governing the retention and management of external legal service providers.
  • Tracking engagement renewals, terminations, and other key milestones.
  • Serving as a point of contact for internal stakeholders regarding outside counsel matters and requirements.

Risk Management & Operational Support

  • Preparing reports, metrics, and dashboards relating to engagement letter compliance and outside counsel activity.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvements and assisting with implementing operational efficiencies.
  • Leading the development, maintenance, and communication of policies and procedures.
  • Assisting with delivering training and guidance to firm personnel on engagement letter and outside counsel processes.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience related to database management principles
  • Minimum 3-5 years of related experience, ideally acquired in a legal or professional services environment
  • Bilingual (English/French) with excellent verbal and written communication skills is an asset.
