Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) Engineering Integration & Execution (EI&E), Avionics Integration Department is hiring a Section Manager. This is a dual-hat role that combines functional leadership with hands-on technical execution. The Section Manager will be responsible for managing a team of approximately 13-17 Avionic Engineers responsible for development, production and field support of Avionics equipment across one or more of the following subsystems: Communication, Navigation, Identification/Interrogation, Data link, Computer/Mission Planning, Network and Storage, Weapons, Antenna/SIGINT, EW, EO/IR, Radar, and/or Mission Planning. This position is located in Melbourne, Florida.

The successful candidate for this dual hat role will be responsible for providing functional leadership and direction to section members, ensuring members have sufficient statement of work, managing member performance (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers), coordinating with programs to ensure appropriate staffing/de-staffing actions. The Section Manager will be the first point of contact for performance issues on programs involving section members, including decisions on escalation and resourcing.

Responsibilities also include day-to-day operation of the functional organization including decisions regarding awards and recognition, performance evaluations, salary review processes, staffing and employee movement between programs, balancing resources across programs, employee development and mentoring, ensuring proper charging practices are followed, meeting indirect budget targets, and interpreting higher level guidance for implementation within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain current technical statement of work (SOW) on a program (80%), while leading and developing a team of approximately 13-17 engineers (20%).

  • Assessing staffing needs, current as well as projected, and working with the respective IPT to address those needs.
  • Support recruiting activities including the creation of requisitions, conducting interviews, and approving offers.
  • Partnering with the program assignment managers and IPT leads in establishing personal program and functional goals as well as performing performance evaluations and merit adjustments for team members.
  • Providing their team members with career development recommendations, mentoring, professional development and coaching, employee rewards and recognition as necessary.
  • Acquire the necessary computers, equipment, and tools to enable their team members to perform their work.
  • Meet indirect budget targets, interpreting higher-level guidance for implementation within the organization.
  • Ensure team members are properly trained for successful achievement of program goals.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
  • Strong team-building/collaboration skills; Demonstrated ability to build diverse/inclusive teams with engaged team members.
  • Manage training opportunities and budget allocations, as well as participation in tool, process, and metric initiatives is required.
  • Provide their group with regular flow down of company and organizational status and appropriately represent and be a spokesperson for the Avionics Integration organization to their group, assigned project, and the broader company.
  • Provide first-level resolution of personnel issues according to company processes and procedures.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field AND 8 years of related professional/military experience in engineering, OR a Master's degree AND 6 years of related professional/military experience in engineering.
  • Lead or management experience in a team environment
  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (SAP).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree in a STEM field.
  • Knowledge of Functional Homeroom processes (e.g., Staffing, Processes, Metrics, Training)
  • Prior experience as a lead or manager of an engineering team (IPT Lead, Functional Manager, Small Group/Project/Program Lead etc..)
  • Experience leading a team of diverse individuals toward a common objective is desired.
  • Possess technical discipline credibility to provide "backstop" support to programs as required on behalf of team members.
  • Experience solving staff and resource issues.
  • Demonstrated mentoring and coaching skills.
  • Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Active/Current Special Program Access

Primary Level Salary Range: $139,100.00 - $208,700.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
