DescriptionAutomation Systems Engineer(Red Hat, Ubuntu, PLCs, Control Systems)Overview:The GBS Group has an exciting opportunity for a hybrid engineer who excels at the intersection of industrial control logic and modern software infrastructure. As a Automation Systems Engineer with GBS, you will work both independently and with a team of designers and engineers on complex projects related to Naval ship platforms. The position will develop and design state of the art machinery control systems for implementation aboard US Naval Vessels. This will include control logic (structured text), Linux operating system configuration, networking, troubleshooting, installation support and coordination. Direct training of ships personnel and support staff and life cycle support functions will be accomplished. This position will also contribute real value by developing future systems for HM&E Machinery Control Systems for U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Army and Military Sealift Ships supported by the U.S. Navy.
Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):- Development of new and/or modification of existing control systems software and control logic with both analog and discrete I/O for U.S. Navy ships.
- Assist in the troubleshooting and repair of existing control systems to include electrical and mechanical interfaces.
- Onboard ships assistance to include troubleshooting assistance and training of shipboard personnel in the operation of and maintenance of these systems.
- Review of legacy systems and drawings to recommend and develop system upgrades.
- Interpret system requirements and design control and sensor circuitry for control systems.
- Use of diagnostics tools and instruments.
- Gain knowledge of and assist in improvement of major concepts and practices within control system envelope.
- Development of electrical and mechanical design and drawing development to document systems.
- Review and development of technical documentation including technical manuals and systems equipment lists.
- Work in a team environment interfacing with various stake holders to include planning yards, shipyards, installation teams and ships force.
Qualifications:Candidates must possess the following professional experience and qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university or equivalent field degree OR 5+ years experience as an electrical engineer with Linux, Ubuntu, PLCs, and Control Systems experience with a focus on circuits
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)
- Very strong experience working with Linux (specifically Red Hat and Ubuntu)
- Strong experience with Scripting, Bash, Java, and Python
- Configuring operating systems, creating and deploying images, troubleshooting, system hardening
- Experience with computer and network communications
- Ability to travel 20%
Desired Characteristics:- Proficient knowledge of the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures associated with industrial control systems
- Software Development experience with Ladder Logic, Structured text, HMI Development
- Experience with control systems or PLCs
- Experience with modern software configuration management and version controls tools, such as Git, Jira
- Siemens, Allen Bradley, GE, Opto 22 controls experience
- WinCC, Wonderware, FactoryTalk, Cimplicity HMI experience
- Active Secret Clearance preferred
