From custom fixtures to sophisticated semi-automated electromechanical systems, you will design and deliver equipment that combines precision mechanics, motion control, pneumatics, sensors, tooling, and machine vision. Your work will directly improve how products are built-making processes smarter, safer, more efficient, and more scalable. What You'll Do
- Lead automation projects from concept, proof of concept, and design through commissioning, validation, and production launch.
- Develop innovative manufacturing equipment and processes that improve quality, efficiency, safety, and process control.
- Apply your expertise in precision mechanisms, pneumatics, servo systems, tooling, fixtures, actuators, sensors, and machine vision platforms such as Cognex and Keyence.
- Translate user requirements and development parameters into robust, production-ready automated systems and control recipes.
- Partner with Product Development, Quality, Manufacturing, Production, Service Operations, and other teams to deliver high-impact solutions.
- Champion Design for Manufacturability, Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, and standardization across manufacturing sites.
- Lead equipment qualification, documentation, operator training, technology transfer, calibration, and preventive maintenance activities.
- Manage external partners, including vendors, machine shops, and contract manufacturers.
- Build compelling business cases, capital investment proposals, cost-benefit analyses, and ROI evaluations for strategic automation initiatives.
- Assess project needs, resources, timelines, and budgets to ensure successful execution.
- Coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing automation engineering team while fostering accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
What You Need to Succeed
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Robotics, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5-10 years of relevant, hands-on engineering experience.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD; SolidWorks preferred.
- Strong experience designing complex mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Experience with PLC and motion programming, including Rockwell or Siemens platforms, structured text, ladder logic, and modular code.
- Knowledge of SCADA/MES integration and industrial networks such as EtherNet/IP and PROFINET, including network segmentation and cybersecurity best practices in GMP environments.
- Experience working within ISO, cGMP, and Quality Management System requirements.
- Understanding of tolerance analysis and statistical methods.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and manage budgets, reduce costs, and improve operational performance.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
- Fluent written and verbal English; Spanish preferred.
- Self-motivated, creative, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
