Position Overview

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Build the Systems That Power Advanced Manufacturing

If you're the type of engineer who sees a production issue and immediately starts thinking about control logic, network architecture, equipment reliability, and process optimization, this role was built for you.

At Novelis, our Automation Engineers don't sit on the sidelines supporting equipment. They own critical manufacturing systems, solve complex technical challenges, and drive improvements that directly impact safety, quality, reliability, throughput, and profitability.

This is a hands-on engineering role with broad technical ownership across PLCs, SCADA systems, instrumentation, industrial networks, machine controls, and plant-wide automation. You'll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of sophisticated manufacturing equipment, lead modernization initiatives, support capital projects, and implement solutions that keep a high-performing operation running at its best.

Whether you're commissioning new equipment, troubleshooting an intermittent controls issue, improving machine performance, strengthening OT network reliability, or implementing the next generation of automation technology, you'll see the direct results of your work every day.

If you're looking for an environment where technical expertise is valued, ownership is expected, and engineering decisions have real impact, we'd like to talk with you.

What You'll Own

Drive Automation Performance Across the Plant
  • Serve as the technical owner for plant automation, controls, instrumentation, and operational technology systems.
  • Design, develop, and implement control system improvements that enhance reliability, safety, quality, and production performance.
  • Support, maintain, and optimize PLC, SCADA, HMI, and safety systems throughout the facility.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex automation and controls issues impacting production.

Solve Complex Engineering Challenges
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment failures, process interruptions, and recurring reliability issues through systematic root cause analysis.
  • Develop practical, long-term solutions that eliminate chronic equipment problems and improve plant performance.
  • Support equipment startups, process improvements, and new product introductions.
  • Apply emerging technologies, diagnostic tools, and modern control strategies to improve equipment utilization and operational efficiency.

Lead Modernization and Capital Projects
  • Provide automation and controls expertise for equipment upgrades, replacements, and capital projects.
  • Participate in system design, specification development, equipment selection, installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Drive standardization of controls platforms, components, and engineering practices to improve maintainability and reliability.
  • Partner with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams to successfully execute projects from concept through startup.

Own Plant OT Infrastructure
  • Maintain and support the plant's Operational Technology (OT) network hardware and software environment.
  • Ensure reliable connectivity between control systems, production equipment, and operational data systems.
  • Support cybersecurity, system backups, documentation, and network reliability initiatives.

Partner Across Operations
  • Collaborate closely with production, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Help develop maintenance strategies, engineering standards, and operating procedures that improve equipment performance.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship while fostering strong relationships across the organization.

Champion Safety and Reliability
  • Ensure all automation systems, modifications, and equipment designs comply with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support machine safety initiatives, risk reduction efforts, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable quality, environmental, health, safety, and certification requirements.
