Overview

A nationally recognized building-systems engineering consultancy is seeking an Associate Principal/Senior Electrical Engineer to join its San Francisco team. The firm delivers thoughtful, high-performance engineering solutions for commercial, healthcare, biotechnology, education, transportation, and other technically complex building types.

This is an opportunity for an accomplished electrical engineer and people leader to guide multidisciplinary teams, manage complex MEP projects, strengthen client relationships, and contribute to the continued growth of a respected Bay Area practice. Relocation assistance is available for this opportunity.

Position Description

The Associate Principal/Senior Electrical Engineer will serve as a permanent team leader and electrical discipline lead across multiple projects. The successful candidate will combine strong technical design expertise with project management, staff development, client service, and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary work from planning through construction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a team leader for multidisciplinary engineers and designers, creating clarity, accountability, and a collaborative working environment.
  • Manage complex MEP projects across commercial, healthcare, biotechnology, education, transportation, and other building sectors.
  • Lead innovative and technically complex electrical system design.
  • Meet and consult with clients to understand project objectives, communicate solutions, and build trusted relationships.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to electrical design staff.
  • Support overall project management, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, coordination, and quality-control activities.
  • Coordinate effectively with architects, owners, contractors, consultants, and other engineering disciplines.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in MEP design and consulting.
  • Demonstrated team-leadership, staff-management, and project-management experience within the MEP industry.
  • Healthcare building-design experience, including familiarity with HCAI compliance requirements.
  • Strong client-service skills and excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Complete understanding of applicable building codes, industry standards, and electrical design systems.

Desired Experience & Skills:
  • Professional Engineer licensure or equivalent experience.
  • PMP certification.
  • LEED accreditation.
  • Experience using CAD and Autodesk Revit.
  • A collaborative leadership style and genuine interest in mentoring developing engineers.

Salary Range: $140,000-$180,000 annually, plus eligibility for a conditional bonus.
