Full Job Description
Summary

Supports the design and development of aircraft modifications and installations related to mechanical systems, including air conditioning, ventilation, smoke detection, equipment cooling, oxygen, potable water, wastewater, vacuum waste, and refrigerant systems, ensuring fit, form, and function meet customer requirements, quality standards, FAA regulations, project schedules, and budget objectives.

Applies fundamental engineering principles and uses Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools to develop and modify designs under the guidance of experienced engineering personnel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supports the design and analysis of aircraft mechanical system modifications and installations under the guidance of experienced engineers.
  • Reviews subsystem and project specifications and applies established design requirements to assigned tasks.
  • Selects materials and components using established engineering practices and specifications.
  • Works with Manufacturing Engineering to support manufacturable, cost-effective designs.
  • Develops working knowledge of Bills of Materials, assembly concepts, fabrication specifications, and manufacturing processes.
  • Supports verification that designs meet customer requirements, quality standards, and applicable FAA requirements.
  • Completes assigned engineering tasks within project schedules and communicates status and issues to the project team.
  • Develops mechanical systems design knowledge and CAD skills through increasingly complex assignments.
  • Resolves routine technical issues using established methods and guidance; escalates complex issues as appropriate.
  • Supports liaison engineering activities, including investigation and resolution of design and installation issues. Maintains regular attendance including being at work, being on time to work and working full shifts.

Summary of Education, Experience & Certification

Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Engineering or a related discipline; 2 years of relevant engineering experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Aviation background and aircraft interior experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Computer Aided Drafting/Design knowledge, both 3D (Inventor preferred) and 2D (AutoCAD)
  • Familiarity with industry standard practices, materials, and component parts .
  • Understanding of manufacturing methodologies, design-for-manufacturing and assembly, costing, and material selection.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawing and documentation standards, including ANSI Y14.5.
  • Ability to review drawings for fit, form, and function with guidance.
  • Ability to meet project schedules and technical requirements in a prototype engineering environment.
  • Ability to adapt to processes and requirements specific to prototype engineering.
  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical systems:
    • Hydraulic: Potable Water, Waste Water, Coolant Systems
    • Pneumatic: Air Conditioning, Ventilation, Vacuum Waste Systems
    • Safety: Smoke Detection, Oxygen, Equipment Cooling Systems
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally as part of an established and growing team.
  • Strong communication, time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, use hands to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and have close/color vision ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to travel as required.
  • Ability to work outside of core business hours as required.


The expected WA salary range for this position is between $78,000.00 - $93,000.00. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, education, location, and other factors permitted by law.
