The Division of Hematology and Oncology and the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center seek an accomplished physician-investigator to serve as Medical Director of the Clinical Trials Office (CTO). This is a highly visible leadership role for an experienced clinical trialist who will shape the cancer center's clinical research strategy, strengthen trial operations, and expand access to high-quality studies across the region. Faculty rank is commensurate with experience. Essential Functions • Maintain an active disease-focused clinical practice and clinical research portfolio. • Lead and participate in investigator-initiated, cooperative-group, industry-sponsored, and early-phase studies. • Advance clinical trial accrual and expand access to innovative therapies. • Teach and mentor fellows, residents, junior faculty, and research staff. • Collaborate with basic, translational, outcomes, survivorship, and population-science investigators. • Provide overall physician leadership and strategic direction for the CTO in partnership with cancer center leadership and the CTO operations/administrative director. • Set priorities for the clinical trials portfolio based on scientific value, patient need, catchment-area relevance, institutional strategy, feasibility, and performance. • Optimize trial activation, accrual, quality, and study conduct across disease-focused research teams. • Serve as the primary liaison among faculty investigators, departments, health-system partners, sponsors, regulatory bodies, and research participants. • Resolve or escalate clinical, regulatory, operational, contracting, and budget barriers that affect trial execution. • Oversee CTO operations leadership, including staffing strategy, workload assessment, recruitment, performance, and professional development. • Promote efficient integration with PRMS, DSM, biostatistics, investigational drug services, specimen processing, finance, contracting, and regulatory teams. • Review audit and monitoring findings; guide corrective and preventive action plans, with particular attention to physician oversight and compliance. • Support NCI Cancer Center Support Grant activities, annual reporting, SOP development, and continuous quality improvement. • Facilitate onboarding and mentorship of investigators and research staff and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation. Minimum Requirements Prior to the start date of the appointment: • Medical Degree (MD or DO) • Completion of a three-year Internal Medicine residency. • Completion of a three-year fellowship in Hematology or Hematology-Oncology • Ohio Medical License and DEA license Additional Qualifications Considered • Established record as a clinical trial investigator, with substantial experience leading oncology studies and research teams. • Strong knowledge of clinical research operations, regulatory compliance, budgets, contracting, quality oversight, and strategic planning.
