Duties & ResponsibilitiesPurpose of Position:
Under general supervision, provides assistance in the administration and supervision of confidential activities within a group of services in the health care setting. Responsible for several departments and manages the technical, managerial, ancillary, clerical and support staff of these departments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Directs and supervises staff and support departments, coordinates special services across activities of related support and professional service departments.
2. Prepares operating plans and drafts of plans, policies, programs and procedures. Participates in the implementation of improved systems and procedures, monitors of systems, and in the control and audit programs.
3. Makes studies of adequacy and effectiveness of general administrative and support services and makes recommendations.
4. Prepares data for budget preparation, operating and statistical reports, analysis and makes recommendations.
5. Monitors requisitioning of supplies and equipment. Requisitions materials and supplies for administrative, professional and support service activities.
6. Prepares studies on patient care standards, conducts analysis and prepares recommendations.
7. Attends staff meetings, conferences and consults with other departments.
8. May represent health care setting administration in relevant functions and programs.
9. Assists in grant proposal writing and in submitting revenue and expenditure reports for special funded programs.
10. Performs other related duties, as directed.
Minimum Qualifications1. Valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing Administration or a related nursing discipline; and three (3) years of satisfactory nursing experience, two (2) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative or supervisory capacity, which may include managing a specific department or nursing unit within a hospital, overseeing patient care, staff management and the day-to-day operations of the department, as well as relevant clinical nursing experience in the area of nursing practice assigned; or
3. Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Nursing; and four (4) years of satisfactory nursing experience, three (3) years of which must have been in a responsible administrative or supervisory capacity described in 2 above.
4. May require Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA) depending on assignment/health care setting. If required, BLS must be obtained within sixty (60) calendar days of appointment to the title and maintained for the duration of the assignment.
