We are seeking a dynamic Associate Director to drive growth and client impact to utility and energy clients in the Energy Providers West Market. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker and relationship builder who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about shaping the future of energy.
What You Will Do:
As an Associate Director, you will:
- Lead strategic consulting engagements for investor-owned utilities and energy providers, from problem definition through solution design and implementation.
- Develop client-ready insights through research, analysis, and modeling.
- Drive client impact in areas such as business, technology, and customer transformation, integrated system planning, decarbonization strategy, grid modernization, and AI and data analytics.
- Manage project teams, ensuring high-quality deliverables, on-time execution, and strong team collaboration.
- Support business development by contributing to proposals, client pitches, and account growth strategies and developing client relationships.
- Collaborate across Guidehouse practice areas to bring integrated solutions that combine strategy, technology, and operations.
- Mentor junior consultants, fostering a culture of learning, inclusion, and excellence.
What You Will Need:
- Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent resident, due to the nature of client engagements.
- Bachelors degree AND SEVEN (7+) plus years of post-graduation work experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, or a related field, with a focus on the energy or utilities sector (excluding oil & gas); Or
- Masters degree AND FIVE (5+) plus years of post-graduation work experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, or a related field, with a focus on the energy or utilities sector (excluding oil & gas).
- Strong understanding of utility business models, regulatory environments, and transformation drivers.
- Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following:
- Utility data strategy and AI/ML technology modernization solutions.
- Utility program management and governance.
- Technology product development (utility or non-utility).
- Utility system planning.
- Electric/power or gas utilities technology integration or adoption.
- Utilities infrastructure resilience.
- Utility customer programs.
- Grid modernization and/or transformation.
- Utility corporate strategy or business transformation.
- Proven ability to structure and lead problem-solving efforts, synthesize insights, and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders.
- Experience managing teams and delivering complex projects to include supporting account sales activities.
- Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, project analytics, reporting platforms, and data visualization tools.
- Ability and willingness to travel and work in a hybrid client-facing environment.
- Ability to work onsite in a Guidehouse Office or Client Office location listed.
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Preference will be given to candidates within reasonable driving distance of a listed Guidehouse Office or Client Office Location.
- Candidates with post-graduation work experience supporting or directly working with Xcel Energy is preferred.
- Demonstrates creativity in proposal development/commercial construction.
- Deep background and understanding of Utilities-related projects and operations.
- Experience in one or more of the following: Program Management Office (PMO), product development team experience, energy resource planning, electric transmission and distribution planning, gas system planning, utility customer program management.
- Technology platforms certifications.
- Scum Master and/or Jira experience.

The annual salary range for this position is $135,000.00-$225,000.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
