Full Job Description
Associate Design Release Engineer, LV What You'll Do
Supplier Technical Support: Assist senior engineers as a technical contact for low-voltage (LV) component and wire harness suppliers. Support evaluation of component specifications, learn supplier capabilities, and help ensure adherence to automotive quality standards.
Design & Packaging Assistance: Assist in developing and reviewing 2D wiring diagrams, schematics, and 3D harness routing. Learn and apply best practices for grounding, shielding, strain relief, and thermal exposure when integrating LV components into the vehicle architecture.
Engineering Release & Documentation: Support the lifecycle management of electrical parts. Draft, track, and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) under mentorship, helping maintain the electrical Bill of Materials (BOM) in our PLM system.
Project Execution & Support: Help track component lead times and delivery schedules to support prototype builds and testing. Flag potential schedule risks to senior team members to ensure build milestones are met.
Cross-Functional Learning & Collaboration: Participate in cross-functional design reviews with Vehicle Integration, Firmware/Software, and Manufacturing teams. Work closely under senior mentorship to gain hands-on expertise in automotive electrical architecture and systems integration.
Travel: Up to 20% travel within the US and Canada.
What You'll Need (Qualifications)
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
Experience & Background: Entry-level to early-career (0-2 years of experience). Candidates should demonstrate strong relevant coursework, academic projects, or internship experience related to electrical design, low-voltage systems, or vehicle electronics.
Software & Tools Familiarity: Exposure or working knowledge of electrical design/CAD tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics, Zuken, CATIA Electrical, or similar) and basic understanding of PLM/BOM concepts through coursework or internships.
Technical Acumen: Solid understanding of 12V/24V vehicle architectures, automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Automotive Ethernet), and familiarity with major automotive connector families (TE, Aptiv, Molex, etc.).
Troubleshooting & Practical Skills: Hands-on experience using electrical testing tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes for circuit testing or bug isolation.
Communication & Mindset: Strong eager-to-learn attitude, problem-solving aptitude, and clear written/verbal communication skills to collaborate with senior team members across engineering disciplines.
Bonus Points If You Have:
Active participation in a collegiate EV, Formula SAE, Solar Car, or similar engineering competition team.
Prior automotive engineering internship or co-op experience working with harness routing or low-voltage electrical systems.
Familiarity with network protocol tools (e.g., Vector CANalyzer, PCAN) or basic vehicle diagnostic software.
Practical experience building, crimping, or testing physical wire harnesses and prototype electrical sub-assemblies.
