The North America Onshore Transactions Legal team provides legal support for Vestas' onshore wind energy business across the United States and Canada. The team partners closely with Sales, Project Management, Construction, Procurement, Finance, Tax, and Insurance functions to support the sale of wind turbines for onshore wind projects.
The team is responsible for negotiating and managing complex commercial transactions, advising on legal and commercial risk, developing contracting standards and processes, and enabling business growth while protecting Vestas' interests. As part of a global legal organization, the team collaborates regularly with legal colleagues around the world to support strategic business initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Commercial Contracting
- Draft, review, negotiate, and administer a variety of commercial agreements, including confidentiality agreements, supply agreements, service agreements, procurement agreements, amendments, and financing documents.
- Support senior attorneys in the negotiation and execution of wind turbine supply, service, and other strategic commercial agreements.
- Identify legal and commercial risks and assist in developing practical solutions that align with company objectives and risk tolerance.
- Ensure contracts comply with company policies, approved positions, and applicable legal requirements.
Legal and Business Support
- Provide practical, business-oriented legal support to internal stakeholders on contractual rights, obligations, and commercial matters.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda, presentations, training materials, and internal guidance documents.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders throughout the organization to support business objectives.
Process Improvement and Legal Operations
- Assist in maintaining and improving contract templates, playbooks, guidelines, and legal processes.
- Support initiatives that improve efficiency, consistency, and risk management across contracting activities.
- Contribute to internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
- Assist with management of outside counsel and special legal projects as assigned.
Required
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
- 2-5 years of legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, government agency, or combination thereof.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements.
- Strong legal research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
- Ability to balance competing priorities and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and sound business judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Word.
Preferred
- Experience supporting renewable energy, energy, construction, manufacturing, infrastructure, capital equipment, or other complex commercial industries.
- Familiarity with procurement, supply chain, construction, or services contracting.
- Prior in-house legal experience.
- Interest in renewable energy and sustainability.
