DescriptionThe Department of Psychology at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Clinical Psychology to begin August 16, 2027.
Our Clinical Psychology program is nationally recognized for high-quality research and clinical science training. Our current faculty conduct research that spans molecular biology to community implementation, with strengths in health psychology (including cognitive aging, eating pathology, and sexual health); anxiety, trauma, and exposure-based interventions; translational intervention science; and psychiatric genetics.
We seek candidates whose research programs will complement and build on these strengths, with flexibility regarding the candidate's specific field of specialization.The successful candidate will build an externally funded and nationally visible research program, while excelling as an instructor and mentor to doctoral students in our APA- and PCSAS-accredited Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program, and to undergraduate students.
Department faculty have access to the Imaging Research Center and its Siemens Prisma 3T scanner, the Texas Advanced Computing Center (one of the country's leading supercomputing centers), the clinical program's in-house training clinic. Collaborative opportunities exist with departmental faculty in other areas, and with colleagues at Dell Medical School, the Waggoner Center for Alcohol and Addiction Research, Neuroscience, and the Population Research Center, among other units. This critical mass of expertise is well-situated to provide early-career mentorship and professional development opportunities.
Duties will include developing an independent sponsored research program, collaborating with other faculty from a wide range of backgrounds, mentoring and teaching graduate and undergraduate students, contributing to clinical supervision and/or training, and serving the department, university, and profession.
QualificationsApplicants must have:
- Completed all requirements for the Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, or a closely related field, by the time of appointment
- A clearly defined research agenda
- A record of research excellence demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications
Preferred qualifications include completion of an APA-accredited (or equivalent) predoctoral internship by time of appointment; potential for eligibility for licensure as a psychologist in Texas; a record of, or clear potential for, extramural research funding; and demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentoring, and/or supervision excellence.
