The
Department of Philosophy at the University of Washington, Seattle invites applications for a full-time (100% FTE) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor Tenure-Track, with an anticipated start date of September 2027. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in research, teaching and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community.
The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a 9-month academic tenure-track appointment, 3-year term, renewable, beginning September 16, 2027.
The base salary range for this position will be $9,750-13,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Area of Specialization (AOS): AI and Philosophy. Area of Concentration (AOC): Open, but we are particularly interested in candidates who can add to our strengths in applied ethics or philosophy of science.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust research program that addresses philosophical issues in relation to artificial intelligence and complements existing scholarship in the department; teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; serve on dissertation committees and mentor graduate and undergraduate students; actively participate in service to the university, profession, and broader communities; and promote a diverse and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to and develop a curriculum that speaks to undergraduate students across campus, including students in Arts & Sciences, Computer Science, and Engineering.
All University of Washington faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, and service.
QualificationsApplicants for this position must meet the following minimum qualifications: Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in philosophy, or a closely allied field, by the start of the appointment. Applicants must provide evidence for excellence in research and teaching.
