Job Summary The Department of Industrial, Mechatronics and Systems Engineering (IMSE) was formed through the reorganization of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering with the Mechatronics Engineering program. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, a Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering, a Master of Engineering, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Industrial Engineering. The Industrial Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (EAC-ABET), and is the only program of its kind in the State of Maryland. The Mechatronics Engineering program is the only program of its kind offered at an HBCU in the State of Maryland. The Mechatronics program will be seeking initial EAC-ABET accreditation during the upcoming 2027 review cycle.
IMSE invites applications and nominations for a tenure-track faculty position in statistical quality engineering and smart manufacturing systems. The department seeks colleagues who can contribute across both of its undergraduate programs.
The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the department's research enterprise by developing a sustainable, externally funded research program at the intersection of statistical quality engineering, advanced and smart manufacturing, industrial analytics, and intelligent production systems, while contributing to teaching and curricular development across Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering.
Job Duties - Develop competitive research proposals and pursue external funding from federal agencies, industry, and other sponsors in statistical quality engineering, smart and advanced manufacturing, industrial artificial intelligence and data analytics, quality and reliability engineering, and intelligent production systems.
- Conduct and publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research that advances the department's research priorities and visibility.
- Recruit, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers and contribute to the growth of doctoral research activity.
- Develop and expand research laboratories, experimental testbeds, and data-driven manufacturing capabilities to support sponsored research, hands-on teaching, laboratory instruction, and course development.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses across Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering, including design of experiments, quality engineering, reliability and risk analysis, systems methods, smart manufacturing, data analytics, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Contribute to the development and modernization of curricula, courses, and laboratory experiences across both programs.
- Provide academic advising to undergraduate and graduate students.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics Knowledge- Knowledge of design of experiments, statistical quality control, and quality engineering methods.
