The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for Interventional Radiology is a key nursing leadership position responsible for the clinical, operational, and educational oversight of the Interventional Radiology nursing team. The ANM reports directly to the Clinical Nursing Director of Perioperative Services & Interventional Radiology and serves as the primary nursing leader for the department.
Interventional Radiology is a dynamic procedural environment providing care to patients undergoing a broad range of image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The department includes procedural rooms, a dedicated CT-guided procedural room, and pre-procedure and post-procedure patient care areas. The ANM works collaboratively with interventional radiologists, advanced practice providers, technologists, nursing staff, anesthesia, and interdisciplinary partners to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality patient care across the continuum.
This position combines operational nursing leadership with responsibility for clinical education, competency development, regulatory readiness, quality improvement, and professional practice. The ANM maintains a visible clinical presence within the department and serves as a resource, mentor, and educator for nursing staff.
Responsibilities Clinical & Operational Leadership - Provides day-to-day nursing leadership and operational oversight for Interventional Radiology in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Director.
- Coordinates nursing activities across procedural, pre-procedure, and post-procedure areas to support safe and efficient patient flow.
- Maintains a visible leadership presence within the department and serves as an accessible resource for staff, physicians, patients, and interdisciplinary partners.
- Participates in direct patient care as needed and maintains clinical expertise appropriate to the Interventional Radiology environment.
- Collaborates with physicians, technologists, advanced practice providers, anesthesia, and other clinical partners to address operational and patient-care needs.
- Supports appropriate staffing, scheduling, assignments, and utilization of nursing resources based on patient volume, acuity, and departmental needs.
- Identifies barriers to efficient patient flow and works collaboratively to develop and implement sustainable solutions.
Clinical Education & Professional Development - Serves as the clinical educator for the Interventional Radiology nursing team.
- Develops, coordinates, and evaluates orientation and onboarding programs for newly hired nursing staff.
- Develops and maintains annual nursing competencies and ongoing education specific to Interventional Radiology practice.
- Identifies educational needs through observation, quality data, regulatory requirements, staff feedback, and changes in clinical practice.
- Provides education related to new procedures, equipment, medications, policies, evidence-based practice, and patient-safety initiatives.
- Supports professional development, certification, preceptor development, and ongoing clinical advancement of nursing staff.
- Mentors staff and promotes a culture of continuous learning, accountability, collaboration, and clinical excellence.
Quality, Safety & Regulatory Readiness - Promotes compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, infection-prevention standards, and evidence-based nursing practice.
- Participates in the development, implementation, and ongoing review of departmental policies, procedures, standards of care, and clinical workflows.
- Maintains ongoing readiness for regulatory and accreditation surveys.
- Participates in quality-improvement and patient-safety initiatives and uses clinical and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Partners with Quality, Regulatory, Infection Prevention, Pharmacy, and other departments as appropriate to support safe patient care and regulatory compliance.
Staff Leadership & Communication - Promotes positive and effective communication among nursing staff, physicians, technologists, support staff, patients, families, and organizational leadership.
- Provides coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and staff development in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Director.
- Participates in performance management and employee-relations processes as appropriate.
- Oversees nursing licensure, required certifications, competencies, and other credentialing requirements.
- Facilitates staff meetings, huddles, education sessions, and other departmental communication as appropriate.
- Partners with Patient and Guest Relations and departmental leadership to address patient concerns and identify opportunities to improve the patient experience.
Resource & Fiscal Management - Supports responsible stewardship of departmental resources while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care.
- Participates in staffing and scheduling decisions to optimize resources based on volume and operational needs.
- Oversees payroll and timekeeping processes for designated staff as appropriate.
- Collaborates with departmental leadership and materials management to ensure appropriate availability and utilization of supplies and equipment.
- Identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and support departmental financial performance.
Credentials - Current Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
- Current ACLS certification required.
- National nursing specialty or leadership certification preferred.
Education & Experience - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional registered nursing experience required.
- Prior experience in Interventional Radiology, procedural nursing, critical care, emergency nursing, perioperative nursing, or another related high-acuity clinical environment strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership experience: prior charge nurse, clinical lead, educator, assistant nurse manager, or similar leadership experience preferred.
- Experience in clinical education, staff development, competency validation, and/or nursing orientation preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to lead interdisciplinary teams, manage competing operational priorities, and promote a culture of safety, accountability, and professional nursing practice required.
- National certification in nursing specialty, nursing leadership, or professional development preferred.
Preferred Qualifications - MSN or advanced degree in nursing, healthcare leadership, education, or a related field.
- Nationally recognized nursing certification.
- Experience in Interventional Radiology or a procedural services environment.
- Experience in developing nursing education, orientation programs, and competency-based training.
- Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation requirements applicable to procedural and hospital-based nursing environments.
