Assistant Director of Finance

The Westin Verasa Napa

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Finance supports the financial and technology operations of The Westin Verasa Napa by overseeing daily accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws, and providing financial analysis to support operational decision-making. The Assistant Director of Finance also serves as a liaison between the property and its Information Technology consultant.

This position serves as the second-in-command of the Finance Department and partners closely with the Director of Finance, hotel leadership, and Ownership/Asset Management to ensure financial integrity, operational efficiency, and achievement of financial goals. The Assistant Director of Finance supervises the Finance Department's Staff Accountants and may act on behalf of the Director of Finance when designated.

Compensation

Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000 annually

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $90,000 to $130,000. Actual compensation offered may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, internal equity, market conditions, and business needs.

Eligible employees may also participate in company-sponsored benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid time off, retirement savings plans, and other benefits offered in accordance with plan terms and company policy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting
  • Assist in directing all accounting and financial activities of the hotel.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Monitor revenues, expenses, cash flow, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Prepare financial forecasts, budgets, and variance analysis.
  • Support the preparation and administration of annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Provide financial recommendations to the Director of Finance, hotel leadership, and Ownership.
  • Analyze labor costs, departmental performance, and operational efficiencies.

Accounting Operations
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash handling, and assist with general ledger activities.
  • Ensure timely billing, collections, vendor payments, and account reconciliations.
  • Review journal entries and accounting transactions for accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain accounting records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Uniform System of Accounts for Lodging Industry (USALI).
  • Assist in developing and maintaining effective internal controls and accounting procedures.
  • Monitor compliance with company financial policies and procedures.

Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and respond to audit requests.
  • Assist with tax filings and required regulatory reporting.
  • Safeguard confidential financial and employee information.
  • Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.

Leadership & Team Management
  • Directly supervise two (2) Staff Accountants .
  • Recruit, train, coach, mentor, and develop team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing performance feedback.
  • Establish departmental goals and accountability measures.
  • Foster a collaborative, professional, and service-oriented environment.
  • Support employee engagement and professional development initiatives.
  • May assume departmental leadership responsibilities during the absence of the Director of Finance.

Hotel Operations Support
  • Partner with department leaders to maximize profitability and operational performance.
  • Participate in executive and management meetings as requested.
  • Support revenue management initiatives and strategic planning efforts.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial analyses and special projects as assigned.
  • Serve as a financial business partner to hotel operations and ownership representatives.
  • Serves as a point of contact with an Information Technology consultant.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year of supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, USALI , and financial reporting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software platforms.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Hospitality, hotel, resort, or property management accounting experience.
  • Experience with Marriott systems, reporting tools, and hotel accounting environments.
  • CPA, CHAE, or other relevant professional certification.
  • Experience with hotel PMS, POS, and business intelligence systems.

  • Sound judgment and discretion with confidential information.
